Directions: After watching the kelp forest video, use the information provided to first
place the Kelp Forest organisms in their correct habitat within the kelp forest
handout. Then construct a food web. Finally, assign a trophic level to each
organism on the food web and construct a energy pyramid on the back of the
handout. Answer the analysis questions on a separate piece of paper.

1. Identify 5 abiotic factors from the video that are specific to the kelp forest.
2. Identify 5 biotic factors from the video that are specific to the kelp forest.
3. Identify and construct the longest food chain from the kelp forest food web.
4. Identify and construct the shortest food chain from the kelp forest food chain.
5. Identity a T3 and the top predator.
6. Describe the difference between a food chain, food web, and an energy pyramid.
7. Describe 2 ways the food web would be impacted if the sea urchin became extinct.
8. Describe what might happen if the sea otter was removed from this ecosystem.
9. If the producers have stored 5700 kcal of energy, then how many calories would the
   top consumer be able to store if the energy traveled through the longest food chain?
   The shortest food chain? (You must show you work.)
