French and year 13 will study German.

The department follows the AQA specification in both French and German at GCSE,
and at A Level, Edexcel for German and AQA for French.

In Key Stage 3, pupils studying German follow the Logo course and in French,
Voilà, which has an integrated ICT package. In Key Stage 4, Francoscope is used in
French and Fokus Deutsch in German. A variety of resources are used at A Level.

Following the completion of our new build project in August 2007, the department
will have six classrooms suited together in a block. All classrooms have an
interactive whiteboard and two will be equipped with a bank of 15 - 20 individual
computers. In addition, video-conferencing facilities are available. ICT is developing
across the department as a tool for learning and all teachers have a laptop.

We are an enthusiastic department and are used to working as a team. We share
good practice and resources and we are always ready to support each other. We
welcome a diversity of teaching styles and approaches. Every year, we are involved
in mentoring ITT students and appreciate their new ideas. We’re a forward looking
department aiming at developing the provision of Modern Languages further at KS4
and Post 16 as well as considering introducing a third foreign language.
