Promotion Emphasizes Renewed Focus
on Historic Brewing Industry Association
St. Louis, MO — Timothy Sullivan, Group President, Barry-Wehmiller Companies, Inc., has
announced the promotion of Scott Steiger to Vice President, responsible for the historic product
lines for the global brewing industry. The promotion reflects a renewed focus on Barry-
Wehmiller’s most historic products, particularly beer pasteurizers and returnable bottle washing
equipment.
Barry-Wehmiller's history began in 1885 when Thomas J. Barry opened a machine shop in
South St. Louis for providing conveying and transportation equipment to malt houses in the
area. He was joined later by his brother-in-law, Alfred Wehmiller, to form the Barry-Wehmiller
Machinery Company. As the business grew, the two men expanded their product lines with a
machine to quickly soak and wash refillable bottles. The company’s growth accelerated in 1901
with the sale of an experimental pasteurizer to the Anheuser-Busch Brewing Association. This
pasteurization of beer permitted local breweries to expand their market by increasing the
distances that beer could be shipped. This historic market will be Steiger’s focus as he leads
the effort to build upon Barry-Wehmiller’s traditional market leadership position.
Steiger began his career with the Barry-Wehmiller Design Group in 1994, upon graduation from
the University of Missouri Rolla School of Engineering. Commenting on Steiger’s new role,

Robert Chapman, Chairman and CEO of Barry-Wehmiller Companies, Inc., said, “Scott
distinguished himself in our consulting practice, and after eight years of leadership
development, he is well-positioned to guide the renewed focus on our historic market.”
President Tim Sullivan, who began his professional career with Anheuser-Busch from 1979-
1984, before joining Barry-Wehmiller in 1989, said of the new Vice President, “When we
determined the need to refocus our organization on Barry-Wehmiller's most historic business,
we wanted to inject leadership through a person who would have the knowledge of, and respect
for, our tradition, combined with an energy and enthusiasm to drive the organization and
product lines forward in new directions. Scott brings those characteristics along with a
tremendous customer orientation. We are excited to add Scott to our leadership team and look
forward to his contribution.”
