General Membership Meeting

I. Call to Order – 8:32am by Vice President Caroll Shortt



II. Agenda Approved as presented (Sherrill-Baarck)



III. Board of Directors’ Report

a. Review of Board Meeting –

i. Election of office: Debbie McPeek, President; Carol Shortt, Vice President; Evette

Szajna-Barry, Secretary; James Perlaki, Treasury

ii. Board moved to approve $75 a month for storage unit for MHC.

b. Financial Report –

i. Report presented by Carrie (Jan-Nov 2009) (Sherrill/Baarck)

c. 2010 Budget –Presented by Carrie

i. No Project Warmth this year

ii. HUD/HMIS Grant II Data Entry & Extra Licences

iii. Expenses risen from Income All tran eliminated staff & recognition breakfast

iv. Net balanced – $3750 budget, $9000 fundraiser last year

d. HARP – Wayne Count/Macomb County 700 HPRP/WL

e. Office Space – MCH need office space as employees are currently housed at several

different locations: 2 @ Verkuilen Building, 2 @ MATTS, 3 Michigan Works

f. Introduction of new staff –

i. Denise Goshton, MHC Administrative Assistant

ii. Chuck O’Brien, Administrative Assistant

iii. Amber Ebel, and Michelle Spiruda; Data Entry Clerks

g. Website – www.macombhomelesscoalition.com

i. Heather will add member and links resource pages.

ii. Agency will post upcoming events and needs.

iii. Any corrections needed email Heather.

iv. HMIS forms are all on site.

v. Paypal donations.

vi. Volunteer form & membership form submit on website.



IV. CoC Coordinator’s Report

a. Region 8 Update

i. ESG Changes- Final Nofa published January 15th.

ii. For months April 1-September 30 do rapid re-housing but don’t use ESG

funds because the limited amount of funds we received.

iii. MSHDA visiting requirements for lead agency- MHC is looking to be that

agency.

iv. Central intake is being looked into.

v. HPRP –Macomb County served people thru MSHDA funds last Quarter.

b. HUD SuperNOFA –

i. Over 800,000 granted all renewals, waiting 100, 000 bonus project 2006

grant Mcrest, gone thru final approval process

c. Homeless Prevention & Rapid Re-Housing (HPRP)

i. Funds drawn down to 22,000 used last quarter

1. Macomb Urban 4 household – 25

2. MSHDA 38 Household – 135

ii. HPRP Forms are on website, forms are to be faxed to Mellena

iii. Fill out screening form & fax to appropriate agency

d. Community Connection Day Volunteers

i. Need volunteers for day of event & before event

ii. Speak to Brenda about tables

e. HEARTH Act

i. Hand-out was provided include families

ii. New definition of homelessness

iii. General provisions page 3

iv. Several family regardless of children ages

v. Directing some funds to prevention

vi. Looking to Cfc for assistance with main entities

vii. High performing communities & bonus



III. Presentation – Katie Ibach

Macomb Vet Center



i. Therapist Vet program

ii. Separate VA Hospitals

iii. Individual Counseling

iv. Family Children groups

v. Spouses of veteran

vi. Free Counseling

vii. Most staff at Vet Center are veterans themselves

viii. Hoping to open a building in Macomb

ix. Focus on combat Vets, but will see any military vet

x. Sexual trauma & death counseling



IV. Committee Reports



a. Housing (Jolyne Baarck/Jim Perlaki)

i. Interviewing for Co-Chair position

ii. Focus on November & December ESG soliciting feedback

iii. CCD – in charge of necessary items, clothing donations, hygiene kits, 2

hairstylists 10am-7pm

iv. Next meeting – February 4th @ 9a.m. (1st Thursday of every month)



b. Community Education (Mellena Martinez mmartinez@chninc.net)

i. November meeting – Poverty Simulation was successful

ii. December meeting – Look at poverty simulation more than once a year,

also look at including other agencies & churches

iii. Next meeting – February 8th @ 2:30 in Workforce Conference Room (2nd

Monday every month)



c. Outreach Committee (Dorothy – Mellena Martinez spoke)

i. Discussed flyers for CCD and have another outreach event to get word

out about

ii. Next meeting – February 8th @ 9:00a.m. in Workforce Conference Room



d. Public Awareness/Advocacy (Chuck O’Brien charlesobrien123@comcast.net)

i. December – Focused on developing CCD flyer & getting out to the

community

ii. Communication to media including newspaper, radio & television

iii. Looking at making communication electronic

iv. LL breakfast planning

v. Legislator event planned

vi. Next Meeting – February 16th @ 3:30 in Workforce Conference Room (

3rd Tuesday of every month)



e. Promotion/Fundraising (Evette Szajna-Barry der_assoc@sbcglobal.net)

i. Evette has created a Save the Date flyer for all future fundraiser events

ii. Next fundraising event - Scrap Til You Drop is 2/27/10

Mound & 13 Mile next to St. Ann’s

i. Stepping Stones Newsletter

ii. Substance abuse assessment – clients can call they don’t have to be in

person

h. Project Focus

i. Extension of summer camp

ii. Families Dealing with substance abuse

i. ARC Services – Adults with mental disability

i. Josh Blue Fundraiser

j. Macomb County Health Department Admin.

i. Free H1N1 Vacinations given, open to everyone.

k. Abigail Ministries

i. 3 spaces available for pregnant women or women with babies up to 6

months old
