Microsoft Access 2007 Tutorial
This Tutorial is used to teach a user how to open and sort the ACE Library database who is unfamiliar
with Microsoft Access 2007. The user must have Microsoft Access installed on their computer in order
to view the database file.
1. Make sure you have saved the database file to your desktop or desired location on your computer.
a. You save the database file by clicking the “Library” link on the page http://www.iup.edu/ace
and selecting “Save As.”
2. Double-click the database file in order to open it with Microsoft Access.
3. When the program opens, the first thing you will see is this:
Note: If you do not have the Navigation Pane along the left side of the window like you see in the image
above, you may have to open it. The image on the next page shows you how to open it.
Click the arrows at the top of the Navigation Pane to open it.
4. In the Navigation Pane, double-click “ACE Library.”
5. After double-clicking the “ACE Library” icon, you should see the database appear. You may be
searching for a specific author or book title. So let’s take a look at how to sort the database.
6. To sort a column, such as Title, take your mouse pointer and hover over a column heading and click
one time with your mouse. You should then see something like this:
7. You may sort in ascending (A to Z) or descending (Z to A) order. To do this, go up into the toolbar and
click one or the other as shown:
The entire selected column will then sort for you.
