RSS Reader Showcase
1) Browser-Based Readers
MyYahoo
Go to http://my.yahoo.com/
Sign in or register for an account
Click on Add Content on left side of page
Click on Add RSS by URL – updates are displayed
Click on Add to MyYahoo content
To add RSS when you don’t have the RSS URL, just enter the website address
(www.medlineplus.gov RSS is on bottom right side of page) into the Find
Content box
Internet Explorer 7
Go to medlineplus.gov (RSS is on bottom right side)
Click on RSS button
A feed page for MedlinePlus will open up
Click on Subscribe to the feed on top of page
Subscription box will appear
Rename feed if desired
Click on Subscribe
To view your subscribed feeds, click on Star icon, click on Feeds
Refresh feed to view updated pages
iGoogle
Log into your Google account
If this is your first time signing in, you will have the Classic Home
Click on My Account
Choose iGoogle and your iGoogle page will appear
Click ADD STUFF on the right side of page
Next to Search Homepage Content button is the ADD by URL
Copy feed URL into the ADD by URL box
You will see a confirmation message that the feed has been added
Return to your iGoogle page to view your new feed
2) Email Based RSS Tools
Watch that Page (WTP)
Watch That Page emails you when the pages you subscribe to have been updated. I am
always in my email program at work, so this system works for me. It eliminates the need
for another program.

After you register, click on Your Pages on the left-side navigation bar
Add the URL for any page (not the feed URL, but the page URL) you want to follow
into the Add Page box
Profile section of page is where you setup your email preferences
Daily, weekly (you can specify the day)
Choose time of day to check for changes
Choose “Show Changes” or “Only show me which pages have changed”
Google Reader
From iGoogle home page click on More and choose Reader
ADD Subscription on left side of page
Refresh button. Easy to determine what is new material
To unsubscribe, click on Manage Subscriptions on bottom left of screen
Choose feed you wish to remove and then click on the trash can
AideRSS http://www.aiderss.com/
AideRSS is described as an intelligent assistant that uses an algorithm to rank blog
articles and posts based on what people are saying about the post.
Register and respond to activation email
Sign into account
Enter URL of the content you want to track
Click the Analyze button
Click: Add all posts to my Feeds (Save and Monitor Locally)
Click on My Feeds on Right side of page
Scroll down to bottom of page to view the new RSS subscription
You can delete a feed from SAVED FEEDS
To change filter level for a feed, CHOOSE the feed in SAVED FEEDS
CHOOSE NEW FILTER LEVEL (Great Posts)
Click on Add Great Posts to my Feed button is directly under the Great Post tab
Updating Account message displays
Click on My Feeds in upper right of page
Scroll to bottom to confirm that only Great Posts for David Rothman are included in
new content.
3) Download
SharpReader

Appearance is very much like Outlook Express
Easy to tell the difference between read vs. unread posts
Paste RSS URL into Address window and click on Enter
The Subscribe button on the top left of the screen will now be active
Click on the Subscribe button
To unsubscribe, right click on the feed name in the left pane and choose Unsubscribe
RSSOwl
http://www.rssowl.org/
RSSOwl is in the same category as SharpReader. This is a freely available,
downloadable program that you can use to establish and access your RSS feeds.
A download is required
Appearance is very much like Outlook Express

Click on New on the top left side of the screen
Enter the RSS URL to which you want to subscribe
Properties box opens up
You can choose how often you want to update the feed by clicking on Update
Automatically. Choose frequency from drop-down menu.
To unsubscribe, right click on the feed name in left pane and choose Delete
