Sunday, November 16, 2003 at 10:00 am: JHS Sponsor-David Yaffe What I Saw at the Fair by Ann Birstein. The author will be speaking and will give an account of her life growing up in Brooklyn, daughter of a Rabbi, and wife of writer, Alfred Kazin. This is a tender story of a woman in search of her own life and identity as she struggled to become a respected writer in her own right. Sunday, November 23, 2003 at 2:00 pm: JHS Sponsor-Dr. Gary Fleischman The Haunted Smile: The Story of Jewish Comedians in America by Lawrence J. Epstein. The author will be speaking and will discuss how Jewish comedians transformed American entertainment from vaudeville to televison. He will recount jokes, routines and anecdotes that captivated audiences throughout the 20th Century. Refreshments will be served The $5 admission fee will be waived for Society members in good standing
