The students spoke and their student government responded. After hearing the news that the NIC bookstore would no longer be carrying textbooks for LCSC-CDA courses, concern quickly spread among the student body regarding the availability of used books at discounted prices, as well as the ability to recapture some funds by selling books back after they
had served their purpose. Your student government responded by establishing the first LCSC-CDA Book Exchange. After spending two days collecting 169 textbooks and one day organizing them, the ASLCSC-CDA Book Exchange sold almost 50 books over the next two days. One lucky student found nine
of the textbooks that she needed at the book exchange saving her hundreds of dollars versus buying them new. Due to the success of the book exchange, the student government is confident that this will become a tradition for years to come. Thank you to all of the students who participated in this event.

Student Government Encourages Feedback
Although the student government put in a lot of time and hard work to establish the school’s first book exchange, it could not have been successful without the participation of the student body. The ASLCSCCDA would like to see this become a traditional event every semester. We are encouraging the student body to provide us with any feedback that you may have. Those students who sold over 50 dollars worth of books will be receiving individual checks via postal service. Those who sold less than 50 dollars worth may pick up their cash amount

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: Amy Corbett
Meet Amy Corbett, or as she is more intimately known, Amos Amelios. Amy is in her third semester at LCSCCDA. She earned her Associate of Arts degree from NIC in 2004. Amy is majoring in Business Administration and plans on obtaining a future degree in nutrition. Her goal is to combine the two degrees and someday own and operate her own nutrition business. Amy’s favorite class at LCSC-CDA has been International Business and her favorite instructor is Scott Haug.

Story by: Tony Parks
with a bang… she was born on the day that Mount St. Helens erupted, and has spent all 25 years of her life growing up right here in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Her favorite food is pasta and color is blue. Her heroes are Mike Corbett, her grandfather, and the Incredible Hulk because he has “really nice olive colored skin.” Amy’s favorite quote is: “The most wasted of all days is one without laughter,” by poet E. E. Cummings. Amos… I mean Amy, enjoys running, (she has beaten her own Bloomsday time every
year that she has ran in it), snowboarding, mountain biking on Canfield Mountain, and “knocking back some cold ones with friends.” So, now that you know her a little better, the next time you see Amos Amelios, ask her to tell you about the tattoo that she got and then had removed a year later.

STAFF SPOTLIGHT: Susan Koerner
Many of you have probably already met Susan Koerner at one time or another. She is the Administrative Assistant at the LCSC-CDA business office. She is one of the ladies behind the counter that are always ready to help new and veteran students. Susan has been working at LCSCCDA since 2001 and has lived in Coeur d’Alene since 1980. Susan moved here from California where she attended Fullerton College and focused on Marine Biology. She also attended a paralegal school in Cyprus, California. Susan received her degree in Criminal Justice from LCSC and is currently working toward her Masters in Adult Education and Learning from the University of Idaho. Susan spent one year as an intern at the county prosecuting attorney’s office and spent a total of three years working there. She still attends their staff meetings to stay current on the issues and training. Susan has been an active member of the Domestic Violence Task Force since 2003, and also serves on the local sexual assault

committee. She recently finished classes on Rape Advocacy at the Women’s Center. On top of all these demanding involvements, Susan was recently “arrested” by the Muscular Dystrophy Association and had to raise money through pledges to pay for her “bail.” Susan is a proud mother of two, ages 16 and 23, and a very proud grandma of two ages 3 weeks and 9 years. She enjoys collecting tea pots and working in her yard. Her hero is Gandhi and her favorite quote is simply: “Do your best.”

Activities: Hockey Game!
The ASLCSC-CDA is sponsoring a student hockey game. Come watch the Spokane Chiefs, currently in fifth place in the Western Conference U.S. Division, take on the Kootenay Ice, currently second place in the Western Conference B.C. Division. The game is scheduled for February 25th, and students can pick up their
discounted tickets at the Harbor Center offices for $5. Students are also welcome to purchase tickets for family members at the discounted price. The first 25 people to sign up will have the option of free transportation. We will be transporting 25 fans in two rented vans, departing the Harbor Center at 5:15 pm sharp. The game starts at 7:00, doors open at 6:00. Be sure to be one of the first to sign up; the van ride over will be a great

way to get to know some of your fellow students. Be sure to watch the newsletter and keep an eye out for postings about our next student activity. Coming soon, the student government will be sponsoring an evening at Wild Walls for students and family.

Club Corner: SOSW Helps Sponsor Vagina Monologues
What started out in a basement in downtown New York, went to Madison Square Garden in 2001. There the Vagina Monologues were performed by Calista Flockhart, Jane Fonda, Melissa Etheridge, and Oprah Winfrey. On February 3rd and 4th the Vagina Monologues are

coming to North Idaho College. The play starts at 7:00 p.m. both nights and having attended this show in the past I can assure you that it will be enlightening, inspiring, educating, and at times… down right hilarious. The play coincides with V-Day, a national campaign to end domestic violence and is regularly touted as “a funny
play about a serious subject.” What I truly enjoyed about this play was that it really made me think… then it changed the way I think. So, purchase a ticket, support a great cause, and allow yourself to be impacted. What started as a play has become a national phenomenon.
The Ambassadors Honor Society has a new online link: www.lcsc.edu/ambassadors This group meets on the first Thursday of each month from 9-10pm in the Harbor Plaza. Ambassadors, be on the look out for upcoming volunteer opportunities.
For ticket information contact the Schuler Auditorium box office at 769-7780.

The Lounge conquers cold with microwave
Once again the student body spoke out and their student government responded. After numerous comments regarding the need for a microwave to heat up food in The Lounge, the ASLCSC-CDA obtained and installed one thanks to a generous donation by our head of Student Services, Heidi Wilkins.
What Would Make LCSC-CDA a Better School For You?
The student council at LCSCCDA is made up students working for students. One of our goals is to address the current issues that the student body feels are important. The key to our success is feedback and open lines of communication with the student body. This is why your committee has created it own email address to communicate any questions or concerns that you may have. Additionally, each representative has their own address to communicate those issues that may deal with specific majors within our institution.
