Project: Introducing the classmate you admire/respect


Situation:
 School has started for nearly two months. How is your new school life this year?

 To promote harmony in school, your school is holding the ‘Mutual Appreciation

 Week’. For this special event, your English teacher asks you to write a profile on

 the classmate you admire/ respect and give a presentation about him/her.




Guidelines:
1.    There are 4 tasks in the project:

      Task 1: Interviewing the person you admire/respect

      Task 2: Gathering information about the person

      Task 3: Writing the profile

      Task 4: Giving a two-minute presentation

2.    Form a group of four and choose one of the groupmates as the classmate you

      respect most.

3.    The project weighs 100% in total and is assessed in terms of the following elements:

       Interview form                     10%

       Summary profile                    10%

       * Written profile                  30%

       Presentation                       50%

     (* You may try to get a photo of the classmate you admire/respect in the project.)

4.    The final product will be the oral presentation, together with all the project

      worksheets( p.2 –p.5)

5.    Date of presentation: decided by the English teachers

6.    Profile submission deadline: The project worksheets (e.g. your interview form,

      summary profile and written profile) should be handed in on the day of your

      presentation.

Task 1: Interviewing the classmate you admire/respect
After you have chosen the classmate you are interested in, you may have to look for
some factual information about him/her. Below is a list of information you have to
prepare for the interview.


You may start your interview like this:


Greeting:       Hello, ______________________ (The classmate you respect/admire), I would

                like to get some information about you. May I ask you some questions?

Response:      Okay.


Afterwards, you should ask questions with the use of connectives such as f_irstly______,

Task 4: Giving a two-minute presentation
You are given at most 2 minutes to introduce the classmate you admire/respect at school. You
are expected NOT to refer to the paper very often when giving the presentation. The
presentation will be assessed in terms of the following criteria:

- ideas & organization

- vocabulary & language patterns

- pronunciation & delivery

- communication strategies
