Her eyes closed, Umi rubbed her nose
back and forth into the soft crumbling surface of
the brick wall, smiling adorably as she felt the
material split apart. Her fingers dug deeper into
the wall, trying to get a purchase so she could
rub harder against this soft caress that felt so
good. Umi‟s tail had made a line a half meter
long, starting between her knees, and finally
pulling out of the wall to rub across something
harder- her supple breasts. A moan erupted
from deep in her throat, echoing off the four
walls and causing a shudder to run through the
entire warehouse above the young catgirl, lost in
the overwhelming sensations.
Her tail sought out one nail-hard tip of
her young breasts, and squeezed with all its
muscular might. Umiko shivered, huge chunks
of brick crashing to the floor as her hands
plunged deep within the wall, finding the slightly
harder stone behind the brick and beginning to
crush that as well. Small cries of pleasure now
came from her young lips as her tail slid further
forward, passing between her legs, and up
around both conical breasts like a python. The
tip of her tail hunted her one nipple as the body
of her tail wrapped around her firm mounds and
pressed deep into the flesh.
Umiko squeezed her legs together,
trying to contain this voracious beast, but could
do nothing to stop her own tail from rubbing
against the lips of her youthful snatch. The cries
of pleasure blended into one long highpitched
sound as her tail squeezed both breasts, and
flicked across one nipple, the brick wall
providing no more obstruction than air. Umi
slammed into the wall, bricks exploding all
around her, and fell to her knees, exhausted.

“I don‟t like this.” Masato said, holding
his staff in front of him, and closing his eyes.
“There‟s too much energy down there... too

this news. “Spirits of the earth, those who hold

His staff glowed, and Masato perceived the
zonbi‟s energy force, of pure darkness, filling the
body of the creature, almost ready to leak out.

followed the other girl‟s line of sight down lower

“Masato!” Umi cried, her cheeks
flushing with heat. Masato slowly pushed
himself to sitting up, and gave them an
apologetic grin. She turned to look at him, her
eyes brimming with tears, and then threw herself
at him. “I was so worried about you!” The shock

Maris and Umiko took up positions on
either side of the door, and burst through the
door at the same time. All the basement walls
were brick, having no doors or exits and was
entirely clear of enemies. Maris looked around at
the room and frowned. There has to be
something down here. Umiko held her shock
wand at the ready and walked forward into the
middle of the basement. The human gunfighter
tapped her foot on the stone floor and turned her
head to look back up the stairs. “Umiko, this

A shriek got her head turning back to
the front, in time to see Umiko being pulled into
a shadow by a pair of dark grey zonbies, ones
who had obviously been dead a long time.
“Maris, help-“ Umi disappeared into the shadow,
one hand clutching at air. Maris watched,
holding her fire, teeth gritted. As soon as Umiko
was gone, she fired a burst into that part of the
wall, causing brick to splinter and shards to fly.
Maris‟s jaw clenched and her finger released the
trigger. She took a few steps into the center of
the room. I should have guessed it right away.

A silver field of energy sprang outward
from her body, shining in the gloom of the
basement, and began to rotate, gradually
gaining speed with each rotation, becoming a
globe that spun quickly- and then shrunk down
around the weapon the gunbuster carried,
outlining the barrel in silver light. Maris raised
the silver-traced assault rifle to her shoulder and
fired. The brick wall exploded in huge chunks
from the sustained burst, empowered by
gunbuster energy.
“Maris, help me!” Umiko cried out,
struggling against the cold but incredibly firm
grip of the zonbies that carried her down the
tunnel. Her shock wand had been drained of all
charge and with no effect on any of the undead.
Her tail lashed back and forth and her heart
pounded heavily in her chest. Maris... please...
I’m scared... Her partner had been right. She
shouldn‟t have come along- not on a big
mission. I should have quit prizehunting until I
learned some special powers... “Help? Maris,
Masato, Eiji...anybody...?”
Maris slammed in another clip, and blew
out all the breath in her lungs, trying to clear the
air in front of her. The brick and stone dust
swirled and she dashed through the cloud, into
the tunnel behind the wall. Her lungs burned
before she was out of the dust cloud, and finally
she was able to take a deep breath. She could
hear movement ahead of her- and stalked
forward, gun still glowing silver. This was the
only way the zonbies could have taken Umiko-
but the sounds are coming toward me...
“Aren‟t you even going to tell me your
diabolical plans?” Umiko whimpered, chained to
the stone altar. The dark-robed sorcerer
chuckled quietly. “No, I‟m in a hurry.” He kept
making motions in the air, dark energy following
his hands, forming a pattern that she didn‟t
know, but couldn‟t imagine was good. “MARIS!!!
MASATO!!! ANYBODY!!! HELP!!!”
Each burst blew giant circles of
emptiness into the body of the zonbies in front of
her. The dismembered bodies fell over as the
life energy could not hold up against the amount
of damage imparted by the gunbuster-enhanced
bullets slamming into the mobile corpses. The
good thing about zonbies was that they did not
have enough awareness to fake their second
death. When they went down, it was for good.
The marksman slammed in another clip, firing
short but continous bursts as she walked
forward into the army of zonbies. Where the hell
is our backup? If Umiko dies... I swear the next
gunfight is going to be at the Home Office.
She gritted her teeth and blew another huge
hole in the next zonbi to block her way. I’m
coming, Umiko... please still be alive when I get
there. Just hold on, little Miko Neko, hold on.
Umiko shrieked as the necromancer
raised a long bladed curving dagger. The blade
was covered in glowing black runes that
matched the weightless ones in the air moving
slowly around the perimeter of the torchlit circle
inscribed in the floor. “Please tell me what
you‟re going to do to me?” She whimpered
again, as much scared as she was trying to buy
time for her rescue. “Since I‟m finally ahead of
schedule, why not.” The sorcerer smiled down
at his captive. “I owe you something after all. I
was going to have to go hunting for a young
virgin, and you came right to my door...”
A deep blush formed on Umi‟s cheeks.
“I...I....” And I’m going to die a virgin, too...

night for sacrificial rituals-“ Umiko interrupted,
her voice sounding very weak compared to the
sorcerer‟s confident deep tones. “Don‟t you
have to wait until midnight? I think you should
wait until midnight.” He chuckled again and
shook his head. “No, unfortunately for you,
that‟s not neccessary. As soon as the ritual
reaches its peak, I‟ll cut into your chest, and
impale your heart.” His knife traced a line down
between her breasts. “And with your death, all
the dark forces you see around you will be
focused into me, giving me undreamed of
power...” He smiled as black runes all around
him fell into the stone floor, leaving the room
clear. The runes on the blade shimmered in the
torchlight as the sorcerer raised his dagger high!
Umiko squeezed her eyes shut tight.
She couldn‟t see the shadow of the sorcerer on
the wall, the dagger‟s sharp point thrown into
exquisite relief by the torches. A sound like
thunder filled the air, and the man-shaped
shadow lurched, head snapping to one side. As
the sound died, Umi heard another sound, the
clink and clatter of metal, as the dagger fell to
the stone floor next to the altar.
She cracked her eyes open and cried
out in joy. “Maris! You saved me!” Her partner
smiled and raised the rifle‟s barrel to point at the
roof, the silver glow fading from the weapon.
“Well, if you died... how would I pay the rent?”
Umiko laughed happily, relaxing finally.
A bolt of darkness shot up from the ground,
rising toward the center of the chamber. Maris
shouted, and her rifle dropped down, a burst
firing from the weapon, passing through the
energy, and cracking into the far wall. The
energy held in the air, then arced down at the
stone altar, and Umi‟s chained body. “Miko!”
“Maris-“ A scream ripped from Umiko‟s throat as
the room exploded in black energy. Maris saw
the catgirl writhing on the altar, energy crackling
along the chains and striking her body.
“UMIKO!!!“ The blast hit her, and she was
thrown backwards into the hallway, her head
cracking against the stone wall, her body
slumping motionless to the floor.
(Five minutes ago)
Out of the basement, she stumbled, her
head spinning and her body nearly numb from
the life-draining energy. The girl slowly climbed
the stairs and fell into Masato‟s arms, eyes
closed, body limp. He looked down at the girl,
and her torn uniform, and his eyes gleamed.
The human sorcerer‟s hands crept around the
girl‟s body and cupped her-
SLAP!!!
“I‟m sure you made a mistake...”
Masato said to the revived Maris. “I was only
trying to make sure you were comfortable...” His
cheek was red from the handprint left behind.
Maris kept her gun trained downstairs, but the
twitching of the barrel indicated that the gun‟s
target would be equally well chosen, if it was
pointed at him. “I just came up... for more clips.
Umiko...” She breathed deeply, her chest rising
and falling in great heaves. “Umi‟s still down
there. We were in the same room, interrupted
some ritual, there was another wave of...
energy... we were separated, and I was thrown...
I think I went the wrong way.” Masato leaned
forward, handed her a headset radio, and
slumped back against the wall again. He was
the only one of the team in the stairwell that
could move even a little besides her, and Eiji
had fallen unconscious again. Maris slipped on
the radio with her free hand, and immediately
could hear the chief‟s deep voice yelling at her.
“I‟m here, quit yelling. What‟s going on?
I‟ve lost track of Umiko, and I‟m going back
down there.” Masato could hear the chief tell
her to wait, that all the other teams were still all
busy and suggest to Maris that she wait for
backup. He winced as he saw the clench of her
jaw. His eyes drifted to Eiji. If his apprentice
was missing, he wouldn‟t wait either.
The chief, sounding very pained,
muttered that another prizehunter unit was going Rivals- many prizehunter individuals and

pushed himself to his feet, and found a gun
barrel right in his face. “Don‟t even think about

still aimed at Masato‟s head. “If you got hurt...
Umiko would never forgive me.” Maris smiled
and backed away from him. “And... someone‟s

the rest of the zonbies and get the

were shining with tears.
The edge of Masato‟s cloak rose up a
couple inches, then fell back to the floor. He
leaned back against the wall, barely able to
remain on his feet. “I won‟t fail you.” His dark
eyes met hers. “Umiko‟s not the only one I‟m
worried about.” She paused, then nodded.
“G...Goodbye, Masato.” He looked down the
stairs at her, as she turned and slowly moved
into the basement. His eyes fixed on the
doorway she‟d disappeared through.
“Maris,” Masato promised,” I will see
you again. In this world... or the next.”
(Now)
Maris leaned around the doorframe and
peered into the basement, then gasped and slid
through as she heard Umiko cry out her name.
Maris held her gun ready, adrenaline flooding
her system, and saw a cracked and shattered
wall. That wasn’t where I shot... Her eyes
tracked down to a huddled Umiko on the floor,
her partner‟s clothes all torn, the catgirl covered
in brick dust. “Umi- what the hell happened?”
Umiko looked up at her partner,
gratefully. “I don‟t knnnoooowww.” One hand
drifted down to a chunk of the wall, fingers
closing around the half-brick. “It‟s so weak, it‟s
all crumbling.” Maris watched as the catgirl‟s
fingers squeezed shut, crumbling the chunk into
bits and powder. Keeping her gun trained on the
hole into the secret tunnels, Maris walked over
to Umiko and knelt down next to the catgirl. One
hand left the gun, and picked up a piece of brick,
her fingers clenching around the rough material.
She strained much harder than Umiko had
appeared to, but couldn‟t make even a small
piece crack off, while without effort Umi‟s fingers
had crumbled the red brick.
“I don‟t think it‟s the brick that‟s
changed, Miko,” Maris whispered, “...I think it‟s
you.” Her eyes left the hole and met her
partner‟s- both girls sharing the same wide,
frightened, gaze. “Maris...” Umiko murmured.
“It‟s still me...”
Maris raised one hand off the gun, and
Umi‟s eyes followed it up, as the catgirl shivered
with fear. Her partner‟s gunbuster abilities were
deadly, and weren‟t her only special powers.
The hand descended, and Umiko squeezed her
eyes shut. I’m sorry, Maris... I wasn’t fast
enough to get away from the zonbies, I wasn’t
strong enough to get out of the chains, I got hit
by the evil spell and... I’m... so sorry... Umi felt
a soft hand ruffle her hair, and slide down to
gently stroke her cheek. Umi nuzzled her
partner‟s hand, and opened her eyes.
Maris smiled, and rested her hand on
Umiko‟s shoulder. “I know it‟s still you, Miko.”
The catgirl shuddered, and her hands fell to the
floor, fingers scraping gouges in the stone as
easily as digging through fresh earth. “...but...
look at me, Maris...” Her voice was much higher
than normal, and trembling filled her speech.
“...all that dark energy... it‟s in me...”
Maris squeezed Umiko‟s shoulder in
support for her young partner. Her shoulder...
her arm... it’s like stone. There’s no give! Her
fingers couldn‟t even make a dent in the muscle
of the catgirl‟s upper arm, no matter how much
force she put into her grip. No, she’s still Umiko.
I can see it in her eyes.
“Masato‟s still on the stairs, and Eiji‟s
fallen asleep. There‟s another company on the
way. We‟ve got to go back in there and get that
necromancer‟s body. Without it, it‟s just our
word against theirs... and we need all that
money, don‟t we?” Maris offered her partner a
grin, and the young catgirl sniffed a couple times
but nodded, the worst of her fears slowly fading.
“I... I don‟t want to go anywhere like this...”
“You‟ll be fine, Umiko. I promise.
Whatever that necromancer had planned, it
won‟t be the same for you-“ Maris kept her gaze
focused firmly on her partner‟s face, only to see
the catgirl huff in irritation. “That‟s not what I
meant.” Umiko exclaimed, “I can‟t go anywhere
looking like this- what if someone sees me?
What if Masato sees me!?!”
The human marksman laughed, and put
both her hands on Umi‟s shoulders, resting her
forehead against the other girl‟s. “Umi... you
haven‟t changed at all...” She laughed, and after
a moment, Umiko laughed too. Both girls got to
their feet, unsteadily, Umi from fear and
uncertainty, Maris still recovering from the
second wave of energy, but feeling better with
each minute. “What happened to your jacket?”
Maris asked, and Umi looked around. “The
sorcerer took it off me, so he could c-cut...”
Maris took her own jacket off and helped Umiko
into it, buttoning the larger jacket securely
around the somewhat smaller girl. “Then you
can have mine, until we find yours. You‟re okay
now... and I‟d guess... better than okay.”
“...what do you mean...” Umi‟s wide-
eyed look searched Maris‟s face. “...better?”
Maris nodded before she bent to pick up
her gun. “This wall wasn‟t damaged when I shot
my way in there... you must have done this on
your own.” Umi looked at the wall, barely
remembering anything since the blast of dark
energy lancing into her body. Is... that true? I
was chained down... and... Her fingers ran along
the brick, snapping small pieces off with even
her lightest touch. “Come on.” Maris said,
leading the way. “Just follow me into the
chamber once more, Miko, and then we can go
home.”
“Maris...” Her partner complained, tail
standing up straight, “I told you... call me Umi...”
“I guess from now on... I better do what
you say.” Maris replied, tossing a glance and a
smile back over her shoulder. Umi pouted and
her lip trembled. “Maris... that‟s not funny...”
Maris turned her gaze forward, her eyes
sweeping over the fallen zonbies, and the rooms
off the main corridor. Umiko followed, stepping
lightly to try and avoid the bodies, and wincing
each time her foot came down on a zonbi, and
their bones crunched underfoot. “There... are so
many...” Umiko‟s eyes shot up to look at Maris,
walking in front of her, gun held ready. She...
she fought so many... to save me.
“Maris...” Umiko breathed. “I‟m sorry to
be so much trouble.”
Her partner shrugged, and kept moving
forward. “It‟s okay. Blowing away all these
zonbies did get me a lot of prize money!”
“You... I haven‟t even stopped ONE all
night! Maris!!! You‟re so mean to me!”
No more zonbies threatened their
passage. The two prizehunters made their way
through the corpse-filled corridors without any
further fighting, picking their way through the
blown-apart bodies of zonbi hordes all the way
into the depths of the sorcerer‟s secret lair.
Umiko looked at the big holes in the zonbies,
and gazed in awe and concern at her partner.
“Maris, you didn‟t use your gunbuster abilities all
the way down here, did you?” She looked back
along the corridor, and tried to count the number
of bodies- losing track after twenty-something.
Maris nodded, still progressing forward.
“You... shouldn‟t have. Not for me. You
could have... died.”
“I had to find you. I didn‟t know what
that necromancer was going to do to you...”
“You shouldn’t have done that for me!
Maris, I’d cry if anything happened to you!”
Maris half-turned, as she was at the
entrance to the ritual chamber. Torchlight threw
shadows onto her face. “You know, Miko...
you‟re right. I shouldn‟t have. You didn‟t do
anything tonight, so... It‟s not like you‟re going
to be able to cover your share of the rent.” She
grinned at Umiko‟s childish reaction, the catgirl
pulling down her eyelid and sticking her tongue
out at the human girl.
“You ready?” Maris leveled her gun into
the chamber- just in case. Umiko sighed, and
one foot scraped chunks out of the stone floor.
“I lost my shock wand, too...” Maris shook her
head. “Umiko, look at what you‟re doing. I don‟t
think you‟ll need your shock wand...”
Umi‟s foot stopped, and she tried to
push the little bits back into the hole she‟d dug,
tapping them down, and causing cracks to
spread out from where her foot lightly fell.
“...sorry...” Maris laughed quietly, and headed
into the room, motioning for her partner to follow
and cover her. Maybe I should have her go first,
instead. “Hey! You! Get away from my prize!”
Maris pointed her rifle at the pale skinned
woman lifting the sorcerer‟s limp form in her
arms. The woman turned, her arms letting go of
the body, and Maris took a step back. “Golem.” Golem- Golems are materials shaped into

Umiko shrieked, as the huge claws
descended toward her partner‟s face, and she
flinched away from watching. She heard a
creaking of metal, and opened her eyes to see
Maris‟s arms raised, her rifle blocking the attack.
The symbol glowed again, and one clawed hand
cut the weapon in half. The stone woman‟s
other claws swiped through the air, and Maris‟s
unprotected face. Maris saw the claw coming
towards her, and knew there wasn‟t time-
-and then the clawed fingers that filled her vision
shot sideways and Umiko, hands extended in a
flat palmed push, stood in front of her. The
golem was flung away diagonally, propelled by
unbelievable force, smashing through one of the
stone walls into another room, with a crash so
loud that it filled the chamber. Umi looked down
at her little hands, and over to the hole in the
wall, her mouth open in shock. Maris felt like
she couldn‟t move, couldn‟t think. Her partner,
little Umiko, who had never been anything but
scared and cautious when it came to using a
real weapon, or fighting anyone except in
practice... had just run in to save her, and
pushed a golem so hard that it had vanished in a
second, thrown completely through a thick stone
wall. How... strong IS she?
“I think I‟ll let you handle this...” Maris said with
a smirk, and went to retrieve the necromancer‟s
body. Her eyes fell on the two pieces of her
gun, lying on the floor, and she felt a moment of
doubt. Then again... she thought back to her
comforting grip on her partner‟s arm, back in the
basement, and how impossibly firm the catgirl‟s
body had felt. She felt like stone... or steel.
“What?” Umiko‟s eyes opened wide, and she
turned to face her partner, hands held up near
her mouth, biting on her thumbs. “ME?”
“Better start now...” Maris said from the door to
the chamber, necromancer‟s body slung over
her shoulder, and pointed behind the catgirl.
The girl winced, and turned, as the Golem‟s
claws scraped along the stone floor and shot
upward in a wide arc. Umiko flipped backwards,
springing off the floor and the altar, in a couple
fast moves. She landed on her feet, and stared
at the stone woman with the long claws.
“Maris... you can‟t leave me.”
“Oh come on, you‟ll be fine. Besides,
you‟ve been complaining that you haven‟t had a
chance to collect any prize money since we got
here.” The golem stood still, claws held at it‟s
side. Maris frowned. “You might want to move
a little faster next time... especially since that
was my jacket.”
Umi looked down just in time to see the
sliced jacket open up along the middle and hang
loosely away from her body. As she covered
her bare chest, the golem‟s symbol glowed in
triumph. The stone lips of the woman‟s face
slowly spread into a cruel smile.
And the stone altar cracked in half, right
where Umiko had pushed off from it, and
collapsed into pieces. Maris gave the golem a
pleasant little smile in return, set the
necromancer‟s body on the floor, and settled in
to watch the show. The golem swung sharp
claws in long arcs at the catgirl, who leapt
backwards and away, bobbing and dodging with
feline agility and speed. Umi was good at that,
staying on the defensive, drawing attention. But
usually she has backup that can actually attack.
Umiko lost the rest of the jacket to very
close attacks. The golem was a powerful one,
and fast, the result of some high-level
enchantment. Maris sighed, and added that to
the list of things she‟d have to buy. “Hurry it up,
would you?” A claw sliced by Umi‟s face, the
catgirl stepping to the side. “And do WHAT?”
The teenage catgirl cried. Maris shrugged.
“Punch her or kick her or something. She
already destroyed my gun.”
“You didn‟t bring a backup?” Umi
asked, backpedaling furiously as the golem‟s
symbol glowed even brighter and the statue
moved faster than before. Maris frowned.
“Money‟s been tight...”
The claws of the golem thrust forward
right at Umiko‟s face. She ducked, the sharp
stone blades cutting a few strands of hair which
floated in the air, and scampered through the
golem‟s legs. Face pressed against a wall,
Umiko stood and turned to see the stone
woman‟s snarl only an inch away. The golem
slammed into the catgirl, pressing her against
the wall. Long cracks spread upwards and out
from their bodies. Umi shrieked, her hands
struggling to hold the claws away from her face.
“Maris! Help me!” Her partner sighed again. As
Umi and the golem struggled, they both heard a
series of metallic clinks and saw a hand grenade
bounce to a stop between them. Umiko gasped-
-how could you?-
-the explosion caught both girl and
golem by surprise. The fiery heat felt like a
delightful bath to the young girl, and the blast of
pressure as the grenade detonated touched her
like a full body massage, all over her arms,
chest, and legs, all those points at once. Her
hair blew in the sudden breeze, and Umi felt an
even stronger and more intense heat building at
the center of her being. She moaned in
pleasure as the wave of destruction passed over
her, doing nothing more than exciting her
tremendously and causing her strength to soar.
Her fingers clenched as an aftershock of delight
struck, the golem‟s long claws shattering from
the catgirl‟s suddenly awakened need. Umiko
tugged the golem toward her, rubbing up against
it as she had the brick wall earlier, and with a
very similar reaction from the hard stone. The
golem creaked and cracked from the impact,
and the catgirl‟s legs closed around the golem
woman‟s, forcing those stone thighs together.
The symbol on the golem‟s head glowed, the
magic failing to match the immense strength
possessed by the blissful green-haired girl. Umi
moaned again and rubbed even harder against
the golem, sending a network of cracks
throughout the torso, and snapping the golem‟s
legs off at the hip with a violent contraction of
her teenage thighs. The symbol flared one last
time and went dark. Moments later, the stone
woman‟s broken body fell apart into brown mud.
Umiko‟s hands and legs wrapped around her
body, smearing the mud across her young skin.
Maris blinked and looked through the
smoke to see Umiko covered in mud and her
clothes in tatters. A smirk crossed her features.
Thought so. She hadn‟t been worried at all. A
body that could crumble brick and destroy stone
with a light touch wasn‟t going to be hurt by a
grenade. “I have to do everything myself...”
Her partner coughed and the smoke
blew backward as if a magic spell had been
cast. Finding no resistance between her arms
and legs, she opened her eyes to see that the
golem had been destroyed. Umiko looked down
at herself and whimpered. “Mud...” She
wrapped her arms over her chest, and her dark
green eyes implored Maris for help. Maris
pulled another grenade from her belt. “Here,
this will clean you off.” Umi gasped and shook
her head quickly. “Maris, you wouldn’t!”
Her partner paused, sighed, and put the
grenade back on her belt. “You‟re right, I can‟t...
they‟re just too expensive to waste.”
“MARIS!!! That‟s not what I meant!”
