The website apples4theteacher is a teaching resource linked to many different subjects. I found a page related to dental health which

includes colouring sheets, directions on how to brush teeth, information about cavities, poems, word searches and literature relating to dental

health.

Expectation 1: (gr.1) describe ways to care for their teeth

Expectation 2: (gr.2) explain the negative effects of poor nutrition on healthy teeth and the importance of regular brushing and visits to the

this website because it is fun and has games and lots of information. This website covers lots of expectations across the grades in health and

physical education.

great for all grade levels and fits the Healthy Eating Expectations for Primary grades 1-3 very well.

healthy recipes, and much more. This website really deals with issues children might be afraid to ask their teachers and parents and is a great

resource for students to research various topics. This website covers many expectations for the healthy living section of the curriculum.

GRADE 5

Expectation 1: identify strategies to deal positively with stress and pressures that result from relationship with family and friends

 LUNGS ARE FOR LIFE– The Lung Association http://www.lungsareforlife.ca/

Lungs Are For Life is The Lung Association’s school program for smoking prevention. It has been developed specifically for Ontario teachers

and students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. It is directed at children, teachers, parents. The program is free and includes teaching modules,

posters, brochures. According to the website, Health Canada rated this program as one of the top three smoking prevention programs in

Canada. This program meets the expectations in the Ontario Health and Physical Education Curriculum and is endorsed by Ophea (Ontario

Physical and Health Education Association).

GRADE 1-12

Expectations: Addresses Substance Use and Abuse Expectations from grades one to twelve.

 POWER FOR BONES www.power4bones.com

I found this website while searching www.teachnutrition.org and thought it was a valuable tool to help bring media and technology into the

classroom. Power4Bones is a free, curriculum-integrated grade 5 program that begins in January each year. This award-winning program

provides your students with a fun and innovative way to learn about bone-health. Power4Bones is based on multiple learning styles and helps

teachers meet curriculum expectations in a variety of subjects, such as Health and Physical Education and Language, including Media Literacy.

It is 7-week program that consists of a variety of educational activities including interactive Web challenges, a classroom trivia game, and the

design of a public service announcement.



GRADE 5 (main expectations)

Expectation 2: apply strategies (e.g. anger management, assertiveness, conflict resolution) to deal with personal-safety and injury-prevention

situations (e.g. swarming, threatening, harassment)

Kidnetic is an interactive website that gives students the opportunity to explore their health and physical body by reading, playing interactive

games and actually being physical while in front of the computer. It also provides parents with helpful resources and advice to keep kids active

and healthy. This website is for ages 9-12 but I felt that is focuses a lot on the Grade 6 Fundamental Movement Skills Expectations.

GRADE 6

Expectation 1: demonstrate a variety of running techniques

Expectation 2: jump for height

Expectation 3: perform locomotion/traveling and stability skills in combination

Expectation 4: perform a variety of springing actions

Expectation 5: perform a combination of locomotion/traveling skills using equipment

This website is a link for the free print outs of Ontario’s Physical Activity Guide for Children. This guide is a helpful resource for parents

teacher and children to get up and get moving. It has valuable information about the benefits of living an healthy active life and provides ways

in which students can keep being physical on regular basis. This guide is great for all grade levels and fit the Healthy Living Expectations for

Primary grades 2-3.

the skills you want to teach, the complexity of the game or the space available.

Making the Right Choices

PBS introduces students to many different topics on this website. I focused on alcohol specifically but this is a great resource as it covers

many issues. For the subject of alcohol, this site explains alcohol in the media, what alcohol is, what it does, peer pressure, alcoholism,

questions, etc. It also has an alcohol crossword puzzle and students can keep a printable journal about their feelings and ideas.

The expectations that this website addresses include:

GRADE 5- Substance Use and Abuse:

Expectation 1: describe short- and long-term effects of alcohol use and abuse

Expectation 2: apply decision- making skills to make healthy choices about alcohol use, and recognize factors (e.g. the media, family members,

friends, laws) that can influence the decision to drink alcohol

Expectation 3: demonstrate resistance techniques (e.g. avoidance, walking away) and assertiveness skills (e.g. saying no) to deal with peer

pressure in situations pertaining to substance use and abuse

Sexuality and U is directed towards adults, teachers, teens, parents and health professionals. The teacher section of the website assists

teachers in teaching Sex Ed by providing teaching tools such as presentations, lesson plans and webquests. The teen section of the website

includes a variety of topics such as puberty, sex, contraception, STIs, sexual identity, and sexual assault to name a few. This section is

directed at teens though its comfortable and cool visual presentation.

GRADE 7

Expectations: Addresses expectations from grade 5 upwards into adulthood. (I would recommend this website for grade 7 and up because

there is a lot of content.)

This is an anti-bullying website that focuses on the different types of people who will be involved in bullying from the bully to the victim to the

bystander. Through different scenarios children learn how each character can positively or negatively affect a bullying situation.

This website is geared to the junior/intermediate level. It’s main focus is for grade 6 and 7 Healthy Living Personal Safety and Injury

Prevention Expectations.

GRADE 6:

Expectation 1: describe and respond appropriately to potentially violent situations relevant to themselves

GRADE 7:

Expectation 1: describe harassment and identify ways of dealing with it

Expectation 2: identify people and resources that can support someone experiencing harassment

This website is mainly a source for teachers to find lesson plans and activities in health and physical education. Depending on what grade level a

teacher is looking for it can meet many expectations in the primary/junior division. It is a great resource for us as future teachers to find

lesson plan for our physical education programs.





 TEACH NUTRITION http://www.teachnutrition.org/

Teach nutrition is an awesome website for teachers that provide tons of resources about health and nutrition. It has activities, games and

lessons from Kindergarten all the way up to grade 8. It provides teachers with links to a wide variety of lesson topics and the chance to order

free resources. The kid’s corner on the website has a great interactive game to help students learn about digestion and proper eating habits.

Curriculum Expectation ranges from K- Grade 8. The main focus is on Healthy Living: Healthy Eating Expectations for each grade level.
