Being overweight



 Being overweight means that people are over

a certain weight range that you need to be.

 This can mean that people have more of a

chance of getting heart disease or diabetes,

and also high blood pressure.

Causes of overweight



 If you are overweight, you might have a

Thyroid problem where you can’t lose any

weight.

 Weight gain is caused by not having the

balance of physical activity and food that you

consume.

 These factors of overweight is caused by

genetics, biologic factors, and much more.

Risk Factors



 Advancing age

 Working varied shifts

 Decreased activity

 Sedentary Lifestyle – Too little activity, too

much time in front of TV, computer

 Imbalance of excess of calories

 Eating foods with high glycemic index

Symptoms of overweight



 Increased weight

 Increased thickness around and midsection

 Obvious fat deposites

Complications of obesity



 Decreased energy

 Heart disease

 Increased of blood clots

 Increased of stroke

 High blood pressure

 Lots more of complications

Diagnosis



 Height and weight tables.

 Body mass index.

 Measuring body folds with caliper.

 Measuring waist – to – hip ratio.

 Water – placement tests.

Treatment



 Obesity is difficult to treat.

 Cultural factors.

 Personal habits.

 Lifestyle

 Genetics

Diet to lose weight



 Reduce saturated and trans fat.

 Limit the amount of carbohydrates that you

eat.

 Keep fat intake below 35% total calories that

you eat.

 For weight loss, you can’t really have too

much calories that you eat.
