A Message from the Chairman of the Engineering Advisory Council
August 2011
Fellow alumni and industry colleagues:
The University of New Orleans College of Engineering annually recognizes distinguished alumni,
faculty and friends for their significant contributions to the College and the Engineering
community at large. The awards are presented at the UNO Engineering Recognitions Award
Ceremony which takes place at the Homer Hitt Alumni Center in November. Accordingly, the
College is presently seeking nominations for these awards for the 2011 ceremony. And we are in
need of your input.
We know there are a number of individuals and projects of which (or who) you are aware which
are deserving recognition, and the College of Engineering (COE) is relying on you to help identify
them. Please take a few minutes to consider nominating a person or a project for consideration.
A form is included for your use to facilitate a nomination, along with a list of previous award
winners. Please provide nominations by October 15, 2011 to me at bhoppe@cticonsult.com or
to Paul Versowsky at peve@chevron.com for review. Feel free to pass this on to other interested
engineering alumni for their nomination(s).
And please plan on attending the ceremony. It’s a great way to meet up with old friends and
colleagues, and to become acquainted with some new ones.
As always, thanks for your inexhaustible support for UNO. It is individuals like you who make
UNO great.

Categories of Award and Descriptions
Distinguished Engineering Alumnus Award – presented to a graduate of the UNO (of LSUNO)
College of Engineering, and recognized for at least one of the following reasons:
a. Contributions to Engineering, including, but not limited to:
1. Recognition or award by professional engineering societies
2. Publications in area of expertise (book, reference journals, conferences, etc.)
3. Recognition by institutions of higher learning (honorary degrees, service awards,
etc.)
4. Election to major office in an engineering society
5. Awarded patent or patents
b. Contributions to Engineering Management
Leadership in engineering management (areas such as concurrent engineering, total
quality management, major project management, etc.)
Distinguished Engineering Alumnus Service Award – presented to a graduate of a UNO (or
LSUNO) engineering programs. This is the broadest category and need not be in an area of
engineering. The service can be related to youth programs, community action groups,
community volunteer organizations, etc.
Distinguished Service to the College of Engineering Award – presented to a person who is not
necessarily a graduate of UNO, but recognized in such areas as major fund raising or personal
giving, outstanding service on engineering advisory groups, industry advocate for UNO College
of Engineering or related efforts to bring support and/or recognition to the College of
Engineering.
John N. Crisp Award for Engineering Excellence - presented to a company or project in the Gulf
South area of the US that exemplifies Engineering Excellence. Nominees should be recognized
leaders in their field of endeavor. Projects should have excellent safety performance and name
recognition in both the engineering community and general public.
Method of Selection
The Distinguished Engineering Alumnus Award, the Distinguished Engineering Alumnus Service
Award and the Distinguished Service to the College of Engineering Award are selected and
approved by the Faculty and Dean of the College of Engineering. The John N. Crisp Award for
Engineering Excellence award is selected by the Engineering Advisory Council and approved by
the Dean College of Engineering.
