Carbs and Fats
By Joe Marlowe and Ryan Griffin
(What were the odds on this?)
How Data was obtained
• Joe went to Albertsons
• He scanned the aisles for snack foods
• He then took the carbohydrate and fat
counts per serving
• See Proof in Background
How Data was Random
• The store was picked randomly
• The packages were selected randomly
• We didn’t get to pick what the store puts
on the shelves
• We also don’t have any control in what the
companies put into their foods
How Lurking Variables were
Eliminated
• We eliminated the low carbohydrate foods
• We also eliminated low or no fat snacks
• Only Actual Snack Foods remained
Hypothesis
• We predicted that the higher the fat
content of a serving of snack foods, the
lower the carbohydrate count for the same
serving

How We Used the Data
• We tested our data using a Two Sample t-
Test
• We entered the fats into L1 and the
carbohydrates into L2
• We guessed that the fats would be less
than the carbs
Results!!
• We found that using this test, we found
that the test was statistically significant at
the five percent level with the actual
probability being .025
Discussion of Results
• The data may be reliable for the five
percent level
• However, the question then becomes if it
is reliable at the 1% level
