COURSE INFORMATION
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course focuses on the syntax and proper use of cascading style sheets in web development. The student
expands the skills learned in INFO1311 by incorporating cascading style sheets into their HTML documents.
This course covers the advantages that style sheets have over HTML, as well as, how style sheets are used to
increase the web site's accessibility to alternate browsers, operating systems, platforms and to those with
disabilities.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to do the following:
1. Understand Structured Markup and valid XHTML
2. Understand Cascading Style Sheet theory
3. Write Cascading Style Sheets
4. Use Cascading Style Sheets to control typography
5. Use Cascading Style Sheets to control Color, Background and Borders
6. Control the layout of a Web document using Cascading Style Sheets
7. Reconstruct a table‐based layout to a Cascading Style Sheet‐based layout

CLASS STRUCTURE:
The format of this class is a traditional classroom delivery. We will meet on a weekly basis for a lecture and in‐
class activities. There will be some work that will need to be completed outside of class, which will require you
to have access to a computer. You do not need to have Internet access to complete this work. You will need a
computer that has some type of text editor software available.
ASSESSMENT OF STUDENT WORK
TYPES OF ASSESSMENT/ASSIGNMENTS:
1. Assignments and Project
a. Homework assignments, a midterm exam, and a final project will be completed. You will need a
computer that has some type of text editor software available to complete these assignments.
Computers in the computer labs on campus are equipped with the necessary software.
b. Assignments turned in late will lose 10% per class day that an assignment is late. No
assignments will be accepted after the test has been given.
c. Assignments will be returned to the students within a reasonable time period after the
assignment is handed in.
d. It is the student’s responsibility to keep a backup of any assignments that are turned in or
placed on the student Web server. All student Web sites will be deleted at the end of the

e. Tests will be graded and reviewed with the students and kept by the instructor for one year.
f. Student tests, papers, projects, etc. that were graded by faculty for determining the final grade
and were not returned to the student will be kept for one year.

ATTENDANCE/PARTICIPATION POLICY:
1. Attendance Policy
a. Excessive absences or unsatisfactory progress will subject the student to administrative
withdrawal from the course. If a student should miss a class for any reason, he/she is expected
to cover the material he/she missed on his/her own. All work must be made up to the
satisfaction of the instructor. Class assignments and labs can be printed from the course
website.
2. Portable Electronic Devices Usage
a. In order to minimize disruption of class, please place your phone/pager on vibrate‐only while
you are in the classroom. If your phone/pager does not have a vibrate‐only feature, please turn
it off. Calls/pages should be answered/made before or after class.
b. Portable electronic devices may not be used for any assessment unless approved by the
instructor. The Internet may be used as part of an in‐class exercise or assignment and the
instructor reserves the right to have all PCs shutdown if surfing interferes with the management
of the class.

instructor withdrawal (IW) or failing (F) grade. The last date to withdraw is noted in the CLASS IDENTIFICATION
section of this syllabus.

REFUND POLICY
Eligibility for a refund is automatically calculated by the date of the withdrawal. The amount of refund is based
on the number of class meetings held prior to the withdrawal compared to the total number of scheduled
