Street Closures and Activities Around the Headquarters Complex
This Weekend:
On Sunday, October 9, 2005, C Street will be closed from 12th to 14th
Streets. The entrance to the Smithsonian Metro Station on Independence
Avenue will also be closed for a portion of the day. These closures are to
allow the filming of the movie "The Good Shepherd" directed by Robert
DeNiro. Traffic may also be affected on C Street on Monday, October 10,
but closures are not expected.
Lot 9 will remain open for employee parking. Court 2 in the South
Building will be closed. Lots 8, 10, and 11 will be closed to allow the
production company to park their 1961 vintage vehicles in these lots. The
Metropolitan Police Department will provide intermittent traffic control on
Independence Avenue, between 12th & 14th. All street signs and meters
will be removed on C St SW, between 13th & 14th. Because of the event,
employees who normally use Court 2 and Whitten Lots 8, 10 and 11 have
the option of using Lot 9 and Jefferson Drive parking areas.
In addition, the D.C. Festival will be taking place on the National Mall on
Saturday October 8th and Sunday October 9th. Festival organizers
estimate up to 200,000 people will attend through the two-day period.
Employees planning to work over the long weekend should be aware of
possible delays, congestion, and street closings.
Please visit the Be Prepared website for additional information related to
these events.
