Progress
• FO-4 continues to make effective and important contributions to optical fiber standards
– Cables – Connectors – Systems
• FTTx
– Test criteria
• Although progress continues, the Engineering Committee is impacted with negative growth
Motion
• Merge FO-4 with TR-42 to take effect in February 2008 at a joint FO-4/TR-42 meeting
– FO-4 and TR-42 have successfully had joint meetings since February 2007 resulting in both committees working together – FO-4 has not been able to have an Engineering Chair nominated and willing to take the position since February 2006.
• Bob Jensen is interim chair
Supporting Information
• FO-4 brings optical fiber expertise to TR-42.8 and its other Subcommittees
– Akin to TR-42.7 on copper systems expertise from component to systems to testing
• Lines of demarcation of long-lines and premises continue to gray • Opens up market penetration to FO-4 members (allows focus to premises)
Needs
• Shift June meeting from first week to second week of the month • FO-4 participation may only be necessary 2 times a year rather than 3 times a year (February and June)
