This is a program I created for microscopic enumeration of bacteria. Other friends have used it for zooplankton, phytoplank pollen counting. Basically what it does is allow you to directly key in your data as you count (from a microscope or whateve store that information in this excel spreadsheet for later analysis.
How it works Besides this sheet, there are two other sheets: the counting sheet, and the recording sheet. When you open the program, that runs the program will be off. While the macro is off, you can change any of the 'label' cells in the counting sheet, whi automatically change the corresponding cells in the recording sheet. Once you've labelled your sheet the way that you like begin counting by pressing the 'start counting' button, or by hitting ctrl+B. When you've done this, all of the keys that ar colored bars will no longer function normally, but instead will tally one integer in the cell below it every time you press t you're done tallying, press the 'stop counting' button, or hit ctrl+E. The keyboard will then be functioning normally again. change any of the tallied numbers, or the labels, etc. at this point. When you have the data and labels the way you want the hit the data transfer button, or ctrl+T, to transfer all the data to the recording sheet. Once you've done so, you can hit t button, or ctrl+W, to clear the cells. This will clear all the numbers and some of the green labels, but leave most of the g the other colored key labels intact. You can then start over again.
Limitations You cannot change any of the formatting in either of the worksheets. Adding or deleting cells, cutting (copying is OK) or pas cause the program to fatally malfunction. You're basically stuck with the spreadsheet architecture I've laid out here, which what I was doing when I made it. I've tried to make it relatively universal. If you get a macro error message, it's likely some part of the sheet. I'd recommend keeping a saved version of it around that you don't normally use in case that happe
If any of my instructions are confusing, just play around with the program a bit and it'll soon make sense. This thing saved time- I hope it helps you out as well. John Schampel scha0306@tc.umn.edu
