•   Class discussion on the best ways of storing information.
•   Work through Tutorial 1, Steps 1.1 to 1.4 you will need

•   Demonstration on using filters CD Resource 1d

             Starter – Class discussion using the IWB to record answers
                         Look at Tutorial 2, steps 2.1 to 2.3
                  What information do you need to solve a crime?

 •   You need to compete CD Resource 2a, writing down a set of 5 questions that help
     people solve a crime.
 •   Then get in to pairs and discuss each others questions?
          Are the questions clear?
          Is the grammar and spelling correct?
 •   Then look at CD Resource 2b, looking at phrasing questions to get information in
     useful format. Use slide 2, how could these questions be phrased differently?
 •   Now look at Slides 5 and 5, how can the responses be guided?
 •   You are now going to put your questions in a questionnaire format (look at slide 6
     and 7)

 Extension Activity: Print your questionnaire 3 times and interview 3 different
 classmates

             You have 60 seconds to ‘cut’ the long questions down to
                                 one key word

 •   Open CD Resource 3b, discuss with the class.
 •   Students then to complete CD Resource 3c, designing the field names and data types
     for their tables.
 •   Demonstration on how to set up a table in MS Access, look at Tutorial 3, step 3.2
 •   Once you have completed step 3.2 then complete steps 3.3 to 3.6
 •   Demo on Assigning a Primary Key? What is a primary key?




 Extension Activity: Tutorial 3, Step 3.7 Checking for errors can you spot any
 errors that have been made during when imputing the data.

 •   You are now going to use filters in a database to find and catch the murder.
 •   Open CD Resource 4a and read the instructions
 •   The first 2 searched use Filter By Selection filters
 •   The 3rd filter uses advanced filters Look at Tutorial 4, Steps 4.3 to 4.5 (Demo on
     advanced filters refers to class).
 •   Now the murder has been arrested, we now need to track down the witnesses for
     their appearance in court.
 •   Demonstrate how to create a Parameter Query by Surname.
 •   Student then to create a Parameter Query by Surname *help sheet CD Resource 4d)

 Extension Activity: What other queries could we create?

    •     Look at the example in Resource 5b - add the rest of the screenshots
          and explanations for queries (look at tutorial steps 5 to 5.2)
    •     Creating report – look at Tutorial 5 (step 5.3 to 5.8)
    •     Use report wizard to create a Report for the English department query
    •     Add screenshots to your Word documents (resource 5b)
