Kindle Tip Sheet
1. Turn the Kindle on
a. Power button is on the back of the Kindle
2. Experiment with the select wheel and cursor bar to select a title
a. Roll the select wheel to move the cursor up and down the cursor bar (watch for the
silver rectangles to move up and down the side bar of the Kindle)
b. When the bars are next to the title you want to read, press the wheel to select it
c. Use the Next or Previous page buttons to navigate through the book
3. Change the font size (while in a book)
a. Look for the aA button on the bottom right hand of the keyboard
b. Use the select wheel to choose the font size
c. Try out a couple of different font sizes to compare the reading experience
4. Add a note, highlight a section, or look up a word (while in a book)
a. Use the select wheel to move the cursor to the place where you want to add a note,
highlight a section or look up a word and press the wheel
i. Choose Add note from the menu
1. Use the keyboard at the bottom of the Kindle to enter a note
2. Select Done when finished
3. There’s an icon of a notepad to the right of the row where you placed
the note
ii. Choose Add highlight from the menu
1. Use the select wheel to select the range of text to highlight
2. Press the wheel when done
iii. Choose Lookup to see the definitions of the major words in the selected line
of text
1. Choose Close (or press the Back button) when done
5. Add a bookmark
a. From any page, use the select wheel to click on Menu
i. Bottom right of the screen
b. Choose the Add Bookmark option
i. Note that the upper right corner looks like it has been folded over
ii. Alternatively, add a bookmark by clicking in the upper right to “fold over”
the corner of the page
c. Click on Menu and choose Go To Bookmark
i. The first line of text on the page is displayed
ii. If you have more than one bookmark, they’ll all show up here
iii. Alternatively, choose My Notes & Marks to see all notes and bookmarks
6. Explore the Amazon Kindle store
a. Turn on the Wireless
i. Switch is on the back of the Kindle
ii. Use the select wheel to click on Menu
iii. Choose Shop the Kindle Store
b. Explore the wide variety of books available, but one-click ordering has been
disabled
c. Some free eBooks are out there – check out a Kindle blog at:

7. Explore the Web using the Kindle
a. If you’re in a book, use the select wheel to choose Home (from the Menu)
b. From the Home screen, choose Menu
c. Then choose Experimental
d. Choose Basic Web and explore one of the sites listed
8. When you’re done exploring the Kindle, turn off using the switch on the back
a. Turn off the Wireless switch, too
