     Loyd Harold Johnson was born May 3, 1922, the son of Ludvig and Cecilie (Eskeland)
Johnson on the Johnson family farm south of Depew, Iowa. He was baptized July 16, 1922 and
Confirmed October 13, 1935 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Depew. He attended country
school near Depew and Cylinder High School. On June 15, 1947, Loyd was united in marriage
to Olivia Mueller in Fenton, Iowa. To this union, two daughters and four sons were born. They
were married 39 years before Olivia preceded him in death. Loyd then married Goldie King on
April 19, 1988.
    Loyd farmed the Johnson family farm in the Cylinder area most of his life. He enjoyed
fishing, gardening, playing with his grandchildren and taking care of his cats. Loyd was a
member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cylinder and the First United Methodist Church in
    On Thursday, March 30, 2006, Loyd passed away at the Lakeside Lutheran Home in

(Harold) of Independence, IA, Lee Johnson (Marjean) of Emmetsburg, IA, Jerald Johnson,
(Ellen) of Des Moines, IA, Gene Johnson of Cylinder, IA, Colleen Bergman (James) of
Independence, IA and Dean Johnson (LaKrecia) of Cylinder, IA; two sisters, Esther Johnson of
Onawa, IA and Ruth Nelson (Kenneth) of Mesa, AZ; nine grandchildren: Chad Freeman
(Shelly), Anna Freeman, Melanie Parker (Patrick), Lori Wesack (Kevin), Erick Johnson (Brooke),
Marilee Lace (Jon), Melissa Johnson, Scott Bergman (Rachel) and Toni Bergman; and ten
great-grandchildren: Brittany Johnson, Nicholas Parker, Courtney Freeman, Keegan Freeman,
Jon Lace II, Olivia Lace, Michael Rechkemmer, Bryce Bergman, Amelia Wesack, and Madeline
Johnson; sister-in-law, Louise Johnson of Emmetsburg; step-children, Patricia Johnson of
Fonda and Dianna Oleson of Fort Dodge; five step-grandchildren and seven step-great-
    He was preceded in death by his wife Olivia; brothers: John, Lester, Elmer and Haakin.
