McLean County Health Department Announces H1N1 Vaccine Eligibility Expansion
BLOOMINGTON—As of Tuesday, December 15, 2009, the McLean County Health department will
offer H1N1 vaccinations to all individuals and the priority group requirement will no longer be enforced
under guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health.
The Illinois Department of Public Health evaluated several factors before making the decision to lift
restrictions on vaccine availability, including feedback from local health departments and local
healthcare providers as well as discussions with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
and other state health officials.
Since April 2009, 44 McLean County residents have been diagnosed with confirmed cases of H1N1
influenza with more than 85 percent of cases requiring hospitalization and resulting in three deaths.
Many more cases are suspected in the county, as not all individuals with H1N1 receive the H1N1
confirmatory test. To date, the McLean County Health Department has administered approximately
11,000 H1N1 vaccinations.
The McLean County Health Department currently has four H1N1 vaccination clinics scheduled. There is
no cost to receive the H1N1 vaccine; both the intranasal and the injectable vaccine will be available at
all clinics.
Individuals with special medical circumstances may call the health department at (309) 888-5450 to
schedule an appointment to receive an H1N1 vaccination.
