NOTES
1. The University of Mississippi School of Nursing awards the Bachelor of Science degree in
Nursing. Admission to the professional program is through competitive application.
2. Students may complete the first 65 hours of prerequisite study at any accredited junior
or senior college. Please be aware that all nursing prerequisite courses must be
completed, with a C or better, before entry into the Nursing program at UMMC. 14 hours
in the Natural Sciences / Math and a total of at least 30 hours of prerequisite study
must be complete before applying.
3. A minimum grade of C is required for each course accepted, and an overall GPA of 2.5 is
minimal. GPA's of recent successful applicants averaged a 3.5 on pre-requisites and an
overall 3.4. If a course is repeated, grades are averaged.
4. If you are not planning to apply to the program at UMMC, you should obtain a copy of the
pre-requisites for each nursing program that you target for admission. This substitute
plan of study should be followed with care. An advisor will assist you with either
route.
5. We strongly recommend enrolling in summer school to reduce semester loads and to help
keep the GPA high, or stretching the prerequisites over a three year period, or applying
after graduation from Ole Miss. Early Entry students may take classes only at Ole Miss.
6. The BSN program at UMMC has expanded to five semesters. Applications are available July
1 for the May class. To be considered for Early Entry, applications must be complete by
November 1st of freshman year. Also note that Early Entry requires a 3.5 High School GPA
and a 24 ACT. Contact Early Entry Nursing Program at 662-915-2057 for more EE Nursing
information. The deadline date for all applications to be complete and in the Office of
Student Services and Records is January 15, 2010, for May 2010 admission. Since
application dates can change, call (601) 984-1080 for the latest application date
information.
7. The School of Nursing gives high priority to applications from Mississippi residents.
8. A composite ACT score of 21 (24 for Early Entry) is required for admission to the
Nursing School.
****9. The HESI preadmission assessment exam is no longer an application requirement for
admission into the BSN program at UMMC. Instead, the exam will be given as part of the
curriculum once the student is admitted.
10. When making their admission decision, the School of Nursing evaluates all
coursework, including those in which the student has invoked the “Grade
Forgiveness Policy.”
