Making an Iowa Map

The purpose of this assignment is to make an Iowa map for your Iowa history scrapbook.

The length of this assignment will by six days. The due date for this assignment will be

March 11, 2011.

Day 1 – The first step in this process is to look at the rubric. The rubric determines what

grade you will get. The link for the rubric is:

http://rubistar.4teachers.org/index.php?screen=ShowRubric&rubric_id=2023275&

This rubric is online and you don’t need to print it out. Please go look at the categories

and see what is expected for this project. The 4 category is the A category, the 3 category

is the B category, the 2 category is the C category, and the 1 category is the D category.

Look at the map on this link: http://www.mrnussbaum.com/united_states/iowa.htm .

When viewing this map, see the features marked on the map.

Day 2 – There is a website for you to go to start making your map. This website is:

http://www.mrnussbaum.com/mapmaker2/index.html. At the end of your Iowa History

session, please save your image on the computer you are working on. Put the document

in your folder.

Day 3 – Please make sure to include the state capital. There are some rivers that run

along our border. Please include those rivers. Where is the Des Moines River? Add that

to your map.

Day 4 – Now it is time to put in some roads. What two interstates run through Iowa?

Please show their route and label them with the correct interstate number. Don’t forget to

add Effigy Mounds. Effigy Mounds is a very interesting place to visit.

Day 5 – Final touches – Please add something to your map to make it personal. You can

include things like: where you were born, where a famous Iowan grew up, a place you

have gone on a trip, a person or place you have researched. At the end of the session,

please leave your computer logged in and your saved map image on the screen. After

class, Mrs. Klepper will print all of your maps and the following day, you will be given

your map to put in your Iowa History binder.
