                 Chapter 1 Experiment Description

        1.1 Experiment Description
             This experiment guide introduces the configuration methods and configuration
             procedure of the basic services of IS-IS protocol, and covers the currently prevalent
             technologies of IS-IS. It is designed to help you understand the configuration methods
             and configuration procedure of the basic services of IS-IS.


        1.2 Version Introduction
             This guide is applicable to VRP versions 3.30,RELEASE 0008 and 5.10,RELEASE
             0039


        1.3 Experiment Objectives
                 Understand configuration procedures of different applications of IS-IS
                 Get familiar with the configuration commands of relevant applications of IS-IS

                   Router A is connected to LAN 10.0.1.1/24, router B is connected to LAN
                    10.0.2.1/24, the WAN interface of router A is 202.0.0.1/24, and the opposite IP
                    address is 202.0.0.2/24.
                   Our task is to configure the IS-IS routing protocol on the two routers and enable
                    communication between the two LANs.

        2.4 Configuration procedure
             1) Run the ISIS
             In system-view, run the ISIS. Apply the default ISIS process 1.
             2) Set Network Entity Title (NET)
             In the ISIS view, configure the network entity name.
             3) Enable ISIS protocol at the port

        2.5 Result Verification
             1) Test connection
             Connect a host to each LAN. Execute “ping” on the PC router. For example, execute
             “ping –a 10.0.1.1 10.0.2.1” on router A. If the screen displays “Reply from 10.0.2.1:
             bytes=56 Sequence=1 ttl=255 time=27ms”, it indicates that the network is connected.
             2) Display the IS-IS state information and grasp the IS-IS principle.

              Note:
             This routing table displays the IS-IS route learned from the IS-IS router and the router learned by other
             router A. Checking the routing table is a main method of detecting whether the routing protocol runs
             normally. All routing entries in the routing table are preferred routes. Sometimes, we have configured the
             route, but discover that the route is not in the system routing table. It indicates that the route is not the
             preferred route. Therefore, we sometimes determine the preferred route by checking the routing table.

             The IS-IS routing protocol is in a 2-level structure. The IS-IS routing table displays two parts: one is Level-1,
             and the other is Level-2. Level-1 router is learned by the Level-1 router in the same area, and the routing
             information at Level-2 is learned by the router in the backbone area. If we only have level-1 routers, we
             only need to check the routing information of level 1. Sometimes we cannot find the IS-IS routes in the
             router that runs the IS-IS protocol. In this case, we can check the neighbor state, routing table and
             configuration.

              Note:
             From the information displayed above, the peer of router A runs normally. We can find that there is a peer

              Note:
             LSDB is composed of LSP. Each LSP describes the connection of router. Like IS-IS routing table, LSP is
             displayed in two parts. Like level-1 LSP of router A only sends the level-1 LSDB of router B, all the routers
             in the same area share the same level-1 LSDB, and all routers in the backbone area has the same level-2
             LSDB. Therefore, such routers use the SPF algorithm to calculate out the same results.

             In the routing table of router A, we can see that router A learns all IS-IS routes from router B through the
             Seriel1/1 port. However, we wonder whether such routes belong to level 1 or level 2. Let it be. Just take a

             We know that the IS router can work at Level-1, Level-2 or Level-1-2. By default, the router works at
             level-1-2. All routers work in the backbone area. They need to manage LSDB of both level 1 and level 2. In
             some circumstances, resources may be wasted. If we set A to level-1, router A will generate a default
             static route (like STUB area of OSPF protocol). The next hop is B. Router A only manages level-1 LSDB.
             This way, resources are saved considerably. After changing the layer of router A (for specific commands,
             see the configuration reference), display the ISIS routing table and IP routing table of router A:

             Set up the experiment environment according to the above figure. Configure IS-IS
             routing protocol on routers A, B, and C. Routers A, B and C are located in the same
             area. In this network, we expect that A and B can switch the routing information, and C
             is independent of A and B. We expect the route from A and B not to be transferred to C.
