On June 3/4, I will be racing Lightwave Micro in the Jimmy Fund Regatta in Newport, RI. Proceeds from
the Regatta will help fund cancer research at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) in Boston. I am a
co-chair of the regatta along with my wife Nancy, who is a benefactor of the DFCI. For more details on

I am asking you to make a donation to the DFCI in the name of Lightwave Micro. I am challenging all
the other owners to beat Lightwave Micro both on the course and in raising the most funds. You can

In last year's inaugural Jimmy Fund Regatta Lightwave was the top funding raising boat and raised
over $8,000 for cancer research, for which the Frank McCaffery Trophy was awarded.
Cancer touches all of us. I lost my father to cancer when I was sixteen. Nancy lost her father to cancer.

One in three people will face cancer in their lifetime, but no one has to face it alone.
On June 3 & 4, I will be sailing for a cure for patients facing over 400 forms of cancer. I am participating
in the 2nd annual Jimmy Fund Regatta presented by Northern Trust to benefit Dana-Farber Cancer
Institute. In 2005 alone, Dana-Farber treated more than 32,000 adult and pediatric patients and
conducted more than 180,000 patient visits and 600 clinical trials.
Cancer touches all of us. It is important that everyone make an effort to stop this disease in its tracks.

I am participating in the 2nd annual Jimmy Fund Regatta presented by Northern Trust on June 3 & 4, to
benefit Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) and The Jimmy Fund. I need your support. Not only will
the top fundraising boat win the Frank McCaffrey trophy, but the contributions will provide critical funds
that enable the work of the brightest minds in science and the most talented clinicians caring for
patients facing cancer.
Dana-Farber has been consistently ranked the best cancer hospital in New England and fourth best in
the nation by U.S. News and World Report. In 2005, DFCI logged 183,185 adult and pediatric patient
visits and infusions. Nearly 600 therapeutic clinical trials were offered that opened doors to new
treatments for adult and pediatric patients and helped save lives.
Here are a few other accomplishments from 2005 made possible by the support of generous Dana-
Farber supporters:
Development of a new drug known as SUTENT® that will help in the treatment of GIST
(Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor).
Remission rates of head and neck cancers are boosted as much as 50 percent by adding a third
drug to the standard regimen.
Slight variations in the genetic mutations underlying a common form of lung cancer will
determine the effectiveness of targeted drugs like Tarceva® or Iressa®.
The new Center for Psycho-Oncology and Palliative Care was launched to research the feeling
of depression, distress, and anxiety experienced by many patients with advanced cancer and
their families.
