Caroline Lucretia Herschel was born in Germany in 1750. She is remembered

for her insightful discovery of eight comets and 14 nebulae, which she

discovered between the period 1786 and 1797. For the same she was honored

with many awards which include the prestigious golden medal of the

British Royal Astronomic Society in 1828. In addition to give her

recognition for the important discoveries that she made an asteroid was

named after her. It was called 281 Lucretia. women inventors and their

inventions was the only way for women to come out of hiding and face the

world boldly.





The fine silk that we wear today, the process of weaving it with silk

or thread was discovered by Mary Dixon Kites way back in 1809. As a

matter of fact she was the first one to receive a US patent issued to a

woman. Submarine telescope was an important invention that was used

by the submarines to gauge the depth of the ocean. It was invented by

Sarah Mather in 1845, an American, who received lots of recognition for

her invention. Windshield Viper is yet another important made by a woman.

It was invented by Mary Anderson in 1903, when she noticed the struggle

by the drivers who had to open the window and clean the windshield to be

able to drive in rain and snow. She then thought of making a device that

can be operated from within the car operated with a switch. She was later

granted a patent in 1905. Born in Philippines, Dr Enrique Ostrea is

the woman who shares the credit for inventing the methods to test if the

infant is exposed to any drug or alcohol during pregnancy. After her this

invention, she immigrated to America in 1968 and continued bestowing

science with her amazing contributions in the field of pediatrics and

neonatology. Tuan Vo-Dinh, a Vietnamese scientist invented badges

that can be optically scanned to figure out contact with toxic chemicals.

In addition, she also discovered an optical method for cancer detection.

She holds around 23 patents for the important discoveries that she made

in optical diagnostic equipment. She immigrated to United States of

America in 1975. Dr. Maire McLoone won the British Female Inventors

& Innovators Awards 2007 for her invention of a system to augment

security mechanisms to guard the public from cyber criminals. She

received the award in 2007. Denise Anstey is well known for her

invention that improved the life of many disabled persons. A disabled

lady herself she always found it difficult to carry and store her walking

stick. This led her to invent a walking stick which can be folded for

easy storage and portability. The walking stick invented by her allowed

people the convenience of portability and also offered support with

enough firmness and stability. For the same Denise Anstey conferred with

the British Female Inventor of the Year 2009. She named her invention
