A fall regalia! This brings to mind the celebrations we had on campus during Homecoming this fall, cul-

I’m pleased to share that Homecoming was wonderful, with over 2,200 alumni, students, faculty and friends
of Marylhurst gathering on campus for a myriad of programs, including nationally-renowned speakers, educators,
poets and artists. It was great

The colors of fall also make me think of our
Foundresses, the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and
Mary. Not only were these women brave pioneers and
visionary educators, they were also arborists. Upon their
arrival on this land in the late 1920s, the Sisters planted
many specimen trees. These tall trees still grace our campus
and give us bragging rights to say that Marylhurst is truly one of the most beautiful, contemplative and serene campuses in the nation.
This fall our physical and virtual campus is buzzing with students. We have a record 1,800+ students enrolled in our undergraduate and
graduate programs. Our core liberal arts programs continue to form the strong foundation of our undergraduate curriculum. Additionally, we are
proud to have been recently recognized as Oregon’s largest MBA program and our two-year old Master of Arts in Teaching program has already
exceeded our expectations with over 130 students enrolled.
As the new President, I am working with the faculty and staff to find ways to continually improve the educational experience we provide to
our students. At Convocation in September, Provost Dr. David Plotkin and I announced immediate actions to fund adjunct faculty develop-
ment, improve office facilities, increase full-time faculty positions and support faculty assessment. We also are enhancing our enrollment man-
agement functions with the addition of our new Associate Vice President, Beth Woodward, and newly created positions supporting student
recruitment and retention.
With all of the excitement around campus, please con-
sider helping our students and the University by making a
special tax deductible contribution to Marylhurst. You can
find more information about year-end giving on page two.
My thanks go out to all of our alumni who support our
students financially as well as our Alumni Mentor Program.
The door to my office is always open to you. May God bless
you during this beautiful holiday season.
                                 Kind regards,
                                 Judi Johansen, J.D.

The Buy a Brick monument dedication took place on a beautiful sunny day at the steps of Shoen Library during Homecoming Week on Saturday,
October 18th. More than one hundred guests witnessed the unveiling of a dedication plaque by University President Judith Johansen. David
Dickson, Vice President for University Advancement, described the history of the campaign and shared several personal stories from the more than
300 friends, faculty and staff who supported the campaign and purchased lamp posts, benches, and bricks. The memories and remembrances shared
that day will always be a part of Marylhurst University. We invite you to view the plaque in front of Shoen Library, walk along the pathways and
enjoy the special inscriptions and messages on the many new lamp posts and benches placed around campus. Many, many thanks to all the people
who supported this very special campaign!
