Evangelical Lutheran Church in America to Send
Anniversary Speaker to Good Shepherd!!
The Rev. A. Craig Settlage
Pastor Settlage serves as Director for Mission Support for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America - within
the Synodical Relations section of the Office of the Presiding Bishop. He began that work in February 2007.
As the Director for Mission Support, Pastor Settlage works with the synod bishops and Synod Councils of the
65 synods of the ELCA in strengthening the partnership between synods and ELCA churchwide ministries.
He joined the staff of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America at its inception, serving as Director for
Candidacy in the Division for Ministry from 1988 to 1995. He then served as Associate Executive Director of
the Division for Ministry from 1995 to 2006. When the churchwide organization was restructured he was
named the director for rostered and authorized ministries in the Vocation and Education program unit.
In this work, Pastor Settlage was responsible for policies and programs related to the standards and support of
those serving in ordained and rostered lay ministries, and in that capacity worked closely with the Office of the
Secretary of the ELCA and the Conference of Bishops. He coordinated the ministerial health and wellness
project within the ELCA, working in collaboration with the ELCA Board of Pensions and the Lutheran Church-
Missouri Synod.
Pastor Settlage served as an advisory member of the Task Force on the ELCA Studies on Sexuality, and was a
member of the planning team for the “Book of Faith – Lutherans Read the Bible” initiative.
Prior to the formation of the ELCA he served as a parish pastor in the Metropolitan Chicago area.
Pastor Settlage is a graduate of Valparaiso University (B.A.), and received the M.Div. degree from Concordia
Seminary and the Master of Sacred Theology degree at Yale University.

Lutheran Disaster Response-New England
Seeks Volunteers, Donations for Flood Relief
MARCH STORMS have caused wide-spread flooding in New England, affecting thousands of our neighbors.
The rain may be abating, but rivers and streams will continue to rise for several days, causing even more
flooding and damage. Lutheran Disaster Response-New England, under the auspices of Lutheran Social
Services and our Lutheran church bodies, is seeking your support in two ways:
LDR-NE is seeking on-call volunteers for a variety of tasks.
LDR-NE needs volunteers to help with long-term recovery efforts.
LDR-NE needs your financial donations to help victims of flooding.
Options for volunteering include:
Muck-Outs
Sand-bagging
General Volunteers (assisting in warming centers, shelters, donation centers, etc.)
Long term recovery
If you prefer one job over another, feel free to specify. If there is any job you would like to volunteer for that
you do not see on this list, please contact us and we will assist you in contacting an organization that will be
happy to utilize your help!
If you wish to volunteer, please contact LDR-NE Coordinator Chris Thatcher at 866-537-1379 or
cthatcher@lssne.org.
If you wish to assist by making a cash donation, please send your gift to:
Flood Relief, Lutheran Social Services, 888 Worcester Street, Suite 160, Wellesley, MA 02484. – or –
Donate online at www.LSSNE.org/donations.aspx and be assured that your online gift is secure. Designate
your gift for “2010 flood relief.”

them. Thank you so very much for your prayers and support! Feel free to contact me with any questions!
Sincerely,
Chris Thatcher

If you decide to volunteer, be aware that you may be called immediately, within the month, or not at all, depending on the needs that arise and what
abilities you are willing to volunteer. All volunteers will be CORI vetted and credentialed thru LDR-NE. A short orientation session and additional
training will be required depending on the volunteer position. All volunteers are responsible for their own transportation to and from the designated
meeting location.
