Welcome chapter members to a new year of painting!

Carol Spohn has a watercolor workshop in April. You can find the projects and dates on her website.

The Xmas party in November was a lot of fun with 7 attending. The project was a watercolor poinsettia and card
stamping. Cindy and Vicki and Happy were stamping extra cards for everyone to paint and decorate. The potluck was
delicious.

I brought a cabbage casserole: 13 X 9 baking dish. 1st layer is sliced onions, next sliced potatoes, next sliced kielbasa
sausage (turkey I think), next shredded cabbage pack down. 1 stick of butter cut up place on top. I seasoned with salt
and pepper on the veggies. Wrap with foil and bake 350 for 1 hour.

There were a couple of delicious fruit salads. One the base was a flavored yougurt. The other one was a can of pie
filling. I think it was apple. Fresh fruits were added. Yummy.

That's all that I can think of. I have been busy since October with a HUGE remodel. They should finish the inside
(kitchen, dining room, bathroom and front hallway) today. This will keep me working for quite awhile to pay for!!

Donna and Ike Hunter's son, Warren, passed away Jan 8, 2011 in Des Moines - where he lived. It was sudden and
unexpected, perhaps a stroke. I know she would welcome cards and thoughts from her painting friends! Please pass
this info on to the painting family!

                   IOWA DECORATIVE PAINTERS RETREAT
           SPRINGBROOK STATE PARK – SEPTEMBER 23th 24th 25th, 2011

APRIL 1 DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF PROJECTS
Greetings teachers!

It’s time to submit your classes for the 2011 fall retreat. What a wonderful retreat we always have and it is
exciting to think about all the great projects that will be offered!

Things to remember:

 The theme is WINTER WONDERLAND
 The chapter will pay you $15/hour for your class time.
 This year we are adding 2 MITI Sunday morning time slots at 1 ½ hr each. There is no teacher fee
paid for MITI classes, so price your MITI appropriately.
 You may submit more than one project for consideration. PLEASE INCLUDE A CLEAR COLOR
PHOTOGRAPH (prefer 4X6 or 5X7) WITH YOUR SUBMISSION. Copied prints of photos do not
publish well and it’s important the students be able to determine exactly how the project appears.
 The selection committee will choose those projects that appear to have the best appeal for the
       students.
 Any class with fewer than six students will be cancelled; maximum class size is 15 (unless other
       arrangements have been made).
 If you are coming only to teach AND wish to participate in meals or any other retreat activities, there
       is a one-day fee (Friday $20; Saturday $40; Sunday $20).
 Supply cost MUST include the surface, preparation, written instructions, photo, palette, (please
indicate what brand of paint you will be using) mediums, and any extra supplies that are needed. The
pattern MUST be applied to the basecoated surface or background unless a special technique is part
of the project. If you need odorless turpentine, please indicate this.
 ALL SPRAYING WILL BE DONE OUTSIDE THE BUILDING.
All project submissions, complete with a photo to:

We discontinued the 25 cent sale for next year. Springbrook management asked us not to have a sales table. Part of
the problem was there is so much left at the end and they don't like like that much stuff left up there.
