THE BOSTON CONSULTING GROUP
Job and Company Description
The Summer Associate Position at BCG
A summer associate position with The Boston Consulting Group can be your first-or next-step
in a business career, as well as an exciting and highly rewarding job opportunity.
BCG's Associate Summer Program seeks a small, select group of highly talented undergraduate
and Master students in their penultimate year who demonstrate the capacity to develop the
skills of a BCG associate. Summer associate candidates should have an intellectual curiosity
about consulting and business in general. After an orientation and training period, you will
begin putting your talent and creativity to work as part of a team advising a wide range of
world-class organizations on some of the most complex issues they face. You will become
adept at helping clients find answers to their toughest questions and implement necessary
changes.
During the summer program, the summer associate would be part of a BCG consulting team
with guidance from a consultant sponsor. The summer would include experiences with their
client case, other summer associates, full-time associates, and any BCG events. Our goal is for
the summer program to give adequate exposure to the associate position and the BCG culture
with the hopes that strong performing summer associate would be interested in returning to
BCG as an associate after graduation. No two experiences are the same; but all offer
opportunities and challenges. On a full-time basis, BCG also offers career paths that include
promotion directly to consultant, graduate school assistance, and career transition opportunities
worldwide.
Who We Are
The Boston Consulting Group is a leading management consulting firm. We currently have 70
offices in 37 countries and over 4,500 consulting staff around the world.
BCG's clients are mostly large corporations. We typically work in teams of four to 10 people
on projects or "cases" for our clients. Each case is organized around some strategic business
issue or issues faced by the client and lasts about three to nine months. BCG works with senior
management levels within client corporations to answer questions like:
• What is the competitive situation in the client's industry and what are the market
opportunities for the client?
• Can the client improve the way its operations are done by changing its internal
functions and processes?
• How best can the client serve its customers?
BCG's work is based on rigorous analysis and creative thinking. BCG's people are highly
motivated, well educated, and hard working. Many people who do well at BCG have had
quantitative coursework but have graduated with diverse majors ranging from the analytical to
the liberal arts.

candidate's analytical skills.
