DIRECTORY OF JOB MARKET IN HEILIGEN-

STADT - REALIZATION OF THE PROJECT,

A TEACHER´S PACK

Day 1

General introduction to the training program and its basic framework, participa-

tory conditions, procedures regarding cases of illness etc., all organizational

problems, introduction to the teachers, words of welcome from a representative

of social welfare.

Day 2

Completing first day’s unfinished tasks, becoming acquainted with the fellow

participants, introductions, expectations toward the class, the other participants,

the teachers, the institution etc. we start with memory training.

Day 3

Continue with practicing different individual and group exercises to find out

about their competences and skills.

Day 4

Students and teachers collectively appoint project leaders, explain and discuss

their duties and find out if there are willing to take on the challenge. Then starts

the forming of the project groups (teacher, project leader), the first steps are pre-

sented to project leaders. After that everything is presented to the class.

Step 1

The different branches of industries as well as the copied notes of already sur-

veyed businesses are divided among the groups. The groups find additional in-

formation in the yellow pages, the internet, advertising leaflets etc. They have to

update the list if they find firms missing on the list. Every single group starts to

divide the firms between them and write down a list with tasks to be done: re-

quired information, number of firms etc. (they have 4 days). The project leaders

inform the teacher how they would like to go about investigation each and every

single object during the next four days. By the end of the fourth day all informa-

tion has to be nicely written in a set pattern on DinA4 paper.

Day 5

In the beginning a short briefing with the group leaders, check the completed

lists of the participants, make sure that the results are written down every day.

Day 6

As on the 5th day but if one group seems to be finished the teacher together with

the group look into their lists and check if there might be more places to find out

about. At the end of the day all come together and explain their results and we

all decide if and which group needs to do more research.

Day 7

Lessons unrelated to the project (helps to maintain their motivation)

Day 8

Briefing with the group leader, find out about the necessary outdoor activities,

how much is already written down etc. (this day should still be part of phase 1 –

see the working schedule!). At the end of the 8th day teacher and project leaders

should decide whether it makes sense to continue phase 1 or we stop here.

Day 9

On account of yesterdays decision we either do lessons about “TIME and its

management” or work on the project. At the end of the day the teacher and

project leaders decide how to make a clean finish of phase 1.

Day 10

Finish of phase 1, all groups present their material and bring it into the required

order to be fed into the computer during the coming PC lessons. The rest of the

day they do memory training, intelligence tests or practice time management.

Day 11

Computer lessons (basic training)

Day 12 – Day 16

The whole week is meant as a break from phase 1 in form of relaxing exercises

with different teachers.

Day 17

Start with phase 2: On this day the teacher informs the project leaders about the

training program and how to develop it independently, exploring different

themes around the work field. The tasks are dispersed among the group mem-

bers (everybody focusing on a single firm, every single person on a different

firm, or

 5 groups with 5 members, each group about 25 firms

 to each firm 5 questions = 125 questions with 5 possible answers

 the whole group will be informed now

 after that the tasks for the following 3 days (days 18, 19 and 20) will be ar-

ranged

 or the participants have a closer look at the objects in case there should be

more specific questions

 for example the object(firm) is:

o situated next to a church

o next to a school

o next to a restaurant

 The participants could take a photo, scan it and add it to the question file so

as to use in class.

 The project leaders inform the teacher about the operational procedure and

the teacher is at their disposal in case of questions.

 All material has to be nicely hand written; each group creates one folder with

the whole questionnaire.

(We are responsible for seeing that all branches are included, all important

branches a fair average of branches)

Day 21

The project leaders inform all groups about the state of activities and together

the next stages are decided upon:

 to continue the work at phase 2,

 to finish (close) the previous results

 stop without finishing and so

 normal lessons (for example Europe)

Day 22

At the beginning a detailed review of the results will be done. The following

procedures are possible:

a) The groups go on working as before.

b) The groups want to go on working, but on different themes.

c) The groups don’t want to go on working, they are fed up with the project.

To a) If it is agreed on continuing, we should decide if the following day is

needed or if we close the subject today and have normal lessons the next day.

To b) We close the subject “The job market Heiligenstadt” and start thinking of

new themes that would be worth developing a learning game e.g.:

─ The history of Heiligenstadt

─ Theodor Storm – a treasured son of Heiligenstadt

─ Schools and other educational organizations

─ Rights and responsibilities of jobless people etc.

Each group is responsible for one subject and starts discussing where and how to

get the necessary information (use a checklist). They go to the information

sources, collect the material, prepare it and discuss within the group what is re-

levant and what is not. Questions and answers are formed collectively and eve-

rything will be written down nicely.

To c) If they decide to discontinue at this stage, they have to agree on the fol-

lowing compromise: to finish the subject and prepare it to be fed into the com-

puter.

Lessons start with the following subjects: “Social market economy”, “Work and

unemployment” or “Key qualifications” or the teacher hands out simple subjects

to each student, informs them where to get the information and each of them has

to construct a questionnaire and possible answers. (This way the creating of a

learning program is still possible without the project groups, but the teacher be-

ing responsible has to organize the progress. There will be less material but we

work on the subject.)

Day 23

After the decision on the day before the work on the project proceeds, a new

subject starts or normal lesson begins. It is possible to finish the whole project

now, look through the material, find suitable pictures from magazines to illu-

strate the subjects. Final gathering with coffee and discussion about the project:

what were the good / bad sides.

Day 24

If everything went normally, the whole class goes to Leinefelde to visit our insti-

tution (LEB). During our stay there we walk through the industrial area and visit

a factory.

Day 25

More differentiated lessons on the computer (beginners´ lessons for one group;

transfer of all the project material to the computer)

Day 26

Continue as yesterday. A small group starts to add the material to a small bro-

chure.

Day 27

Continue working on the brochure and beginners´ lessons for the other group.

Day 28

Printing of the brochure, testing the questionnaire.

Day 29

Presenting, testing and evaluating the material with other classes with the help

of the group leaders.

Day 30

End of the project
