In all actuality, it was because liquor was no longer legally
available, the public turned to gangsters who readily took on the
bootlegging industry and supplied them with liquor. Bootleg
alcohol is what fueled the work of organized crime. Not only did
the number of serious crimes increase, but crime became
“organized”. Most notable gangster was Al Capone. 2nd Period

Susan B Anthony (1820 - 1906) was an American social reformer and
suffragist. Some of her quotes can affect you at the core, such as, “It
was we, the people; not we, the white male citizens; nor yet we, the
male citizens; but we, the whole people, who formed the Union...”
Although she died before women were given the right to vote with
the 19th Amendment in 1920, she was truly a trailblazer that set the
right in motion.

The United States presidential election of 1932 took place as the effects
of the 1929 Wall Street crash and the Great Depression were being felt
intensely across the country. President Herbert Hoover’s popularity was
falling as voters felt he was unable to reverse the domestic economic
collapse, or deal with prohibition. Franklin D. Roosevelt used what he
called Hoover's failure to deal with these problems as a platform for his
own election, promising reform in his policy called the New Deal.
Although there were major problems in agriculture and mining,
according to this picture, it is clear that many international issues were
needing resolution as well.

If you were a sociable person, he [the government

while he was talking with you you could hardly be so
ungrateful as to notice that a dozen carcasses were
      passing him untouched.

An instant best-seller, Sinclair's book , The Jungle, reeked with the
stink of the Chicago stockyards. He told how dead rats were
shoveled into sausage-grinding machines; how bribed inspectors
looked the other way when diseased cows were slaughtered for
beef, and how filth and guts were swept off the floor and packaged
as "potted ham.“
President Theodore Roosevelt was sickened after reading an
advance copy. He called upon Congress to pass a law establishing
the Food and Drug Administration and, for the first time, setting up
federal inspection standards for meat.

    Answer

                                    A
The Scopes Trial—formally known as The State of Tennessee v. Scopes and informally
known as the Scopes Monkey Trial—was an American legal case in 1925 in which a
high school biology teacher John Scopes was accused of violating the state's Butler Act
that made it unlawful to teach evolution.
Scopes was found guilty, but the verdict was overturned on a technicality and he was
never brought back to trial. The trial drew intense national publicity, as national
reporters flocked to cover the big-name lawyers representing each side. William
Jennings Bryan, argued for the prosecution, while Clarence Darrow, the famed defense
attorney, spoke for Scopes.
