Lutheran Hillside Village (Peoria)
Field of Practice:
Lutheran Hillside Village is a continuing care retirement community (CCRC), offering
independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing within the
community. It is one of 19 Lutheran Senior Services (LSS) communities in Illinois and
Missouri, and part of a faith-based, not-for-profit network that specializes in enhancing
life for seniors. Its mission, “Older Adults Living Life to the Fullest,” is fulfilled through
a person-centered approach to a comprehensive continuum of life choices.
BSW students will have the opportunity to work in a continuum of care setting with the
aging population, gaining an understanding of independent living, assisted living,
memory care, and skilled nursing. They will learn the assessment process for residents at
varying levels of physical and cognitive needs, set up services for seniors in transition,
learn about the aging process in later life, and become proficient in administering
professional assessment tools commonly used with the senior population. Students will
experience family systems as well as micro, mezzo, and macro social work.
