                     UMW Libraries Home Page: <http://www.umw.edu/library/>
Libraries History Web Page: <http://www.umw.edu/library/research/by_subject/history__american_studies.php>

                                            Finding Book Reviews

 Go to “How Do I . . . ?” → “Find Book Reviews?” from the UMW Libraries home page. The book
reviews page is also on the UMW Libraries History & American Studies web page. (See pull-down
“Research by Subject” menu under “Do Research” on libraries main web page.)

 The book review sources are organized in broad categories. Note that recently published books (after the
mid-1980s) are more likely to have full-text online reviews than are older volumes. Three excellent
online book review sources are Book Review Index Plus, ChoiceReviews.online, and Books in Print.
Useful hint! After finding references in a database, click on “Locate Journal Article” to see if a
periodical article not full text is available in another database or is in the libraries’ collections.

 Of course, you may need to consult other databases as well as print indexes, which are noted on the book
review web page. Two excellent print works in the Reference collection are the Combined Retrospective
Index to Book Reviews in Scholarly Journals, 1886 to 1974 (REFB Z 1035 .A1 C64) and Book Review
Digest (1905 to date; REFB Z 1219 .C96). Useful hint! Be sure to consult the “Journal Finder” on the
UMW Libraries home page to see if a periodical cited in a book review source is available full text in one
of the library databases (“Find Articles” → “Journal Finder”).

 To look for periodical titles in the online catalog, go to the libraries home page, choose the Basic Search
option at the top, select Title of Periodical from the pull-down menu, and type the name of the publication
that contains your review. (Ignore initial articles in the title such as a, an, or the. For example, look up
New York Times, not The New York Times.)

                                              Citing Your Sources

 Go to “How Do I . . . ?” → “Cite Sources?” from the UMW Libraries home page. The citation style
guide is also on the UMW Libraries History & American Studies web page. (See pull-down “Research
by Subject” menu under “Do Research” on libraries main web page.)

 Use the Chicago / Turabian style guide, which covers both print and online resources.
