School Vision Statement
St Mary's Primary School, as part of the Goldfields community, draws on the Spirit of the past and the
gifts of the present as we share our Catholic Faith.
The Christian values of trust, respect and love for God and one another are nurtured within the whole
person as they grow to their fullest potential.
Our school endeavours to create a learning environment that will enable students to meet the challenges
of the future.
Dear Parents & Guardians
Confirmation:
Congratulations to all the candidates who received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday evening in St
Mary’s Church. The celebration was extremely reverent with Father Joseph as the main celebrant, assisted by
Fr Daniel and Fr Anand. The candidates were fantastic and it was possible to feel the importance they placed
on their decision to become full members of the Church. Thank you to Mr. Jason Cain, Mrs Neagle and Miss
Malatesta for preparing the candidates magnificently and also to Mrs Lander, Mrs Lennon and the St Mary’s
School Choir for singing so beautifully on the night. Thanks also to the teachers who supported the children with
their presence. To parents and guardians, thank you for your help and support and congratulations on the
presentation and preparation of your sons and daughters.
Father’s Day Liturgy:
The Father’s Day Liturgy will be held next Friday 2 September in the Undercover Area beginning at 8.45am. All
parents, grandparents or guardians are most welcome to attend this celebration in recognition of these very
special people in our lives. A morning tea will follow the Liturgy in the school hall. The Parents and Friends
Association will also be selling items for Father’s Day in the Library, more information will follow in the Link next
week.
Senior Athletics Carnival:
Next Thursday 1 September, the Senior Athletics Carnival for Years 3 to 7 will be held at Wallace Park from
9.30am to 2.30pm. A program will be sent home with races and times but this will only be a rough guide as to
when races will begin.
Vacation Swimming:
VacSwim enrolment forms for October and December/January holidays are available from the front office or
families can enrol online at www.det.wa.edu.au.
Please note that enrolment forms, whether picked up from the office or downloaded from the site should be
posted directly to VacSwim.

partly funding this worthwhile school activity.
Year Seven Relocation 2013:

students from the two Catholic primary schools in Kalgoorlie Boulder to John Paul College in 2013. The college
will meet with the Catholic primary schools to develop a transition program with an emphasis on literacy and
numeracy.
John Paul College is also conducting an open day on Wednesday 7 September with a tour beginning at 3.40pm

MANDATE LETTER—The Sense of the Sacred
Those in the Gospels who heard Jesus were already aware of the presence and the
power of God, for they were members of the People of God that had many
experiences of God over at least eighteen centuries, starting with the call of
Abraham. This awareness is called a sense of the sacred.
This sense is a prerequisite for the primary proclamation to bear fruit in the lives of
those who hear it. Sadly, this sense is often lacking today in people who live in
affluent and materialistic societies, such as Australia. In these situations, helping
people to develop a sense of the sacred is an essential task in the primary
proclamation.
Often we think that having lots of things will bring us happiness. But in Sunday’s
Gospel Jesus tells us about another way. If we think of others and don’t get caught
up in our selves, then we will find life.
GOSPEL PRAYER
