Sicopal Yellow L 1120
14059-33-7 237-898-0 bismuth vanadate, BiVO4 Pigment Yellow 184 / 771740 Sicopal® Yellow L 1120 consists of fine granules of bismuth vanadate with a stabilizer coat consisting of zinc and aluminum compounds. In animal studies, Sicopal® Yellow L 1120 did not display acute toxicity. No acute irritant effect was shown in tests to determine the acute irritation of skin and mucous membranes. Animal studies gave some indication to inhalational toxicity. Changes in lung weight and lung tissue were found in rats exposed to high concentrations of dust. Toxic effects can be observed only when the concentration in the lungs exceeds a certain level that usually does not occur under the usual conditions of industrial hygiene and, in particular, when processing low-dusting products. In experiments on animals, bismuth vanadate pigments did not display sensitizing effects. Bismuth compounds are not known to have caused damage to the environment and they are not expected to. Vanadium compounds except vanadium pentoxide have toxic effects on humans, animals and plants only at relatively high concentrations. Vanadium is an essential trace element for humans and animals. In experiments on the ecotoxicity on fish and bacteria, bismuth vanadate pigments did not display toxic effects. Due to their insolubility in water, dissolved heavy metals are not expected to be given off to the seepage water of a controlled dumpsite. WGK 1, low hazard to waters (VwVwS of July 27, 2005, annex 4) (Germany) Labeling according to the German Ordinance on dangerous substances or corresponding EU directives: no labeling required due to a particulate matter fraction of < 0.1 % When Sicopal® Yellow L 1120 is ground to powder, this labeling is required:

Dangerous goods classification Heavy metal contents

not hazardous under transport regulation No compounds of lead, cadmium, hexavalent chromium or mercury have intentionally been added to Sicopal® Yellow L 1120. Analyses of representative standard samples have shown that the sum of the total content of these elements is less than 100 mg/kg and thus below the limits laid down in the EU packaging directive 94/62/EC and the American CONEG model. The requirements of the EU directive on electronic devices, 2002/95/EC, and the EU directive on end-of-life vehicles, 2000/53/EC, are met. On average, the total contents of technically unavoidable impurities are as follows: antimony arsenic cadmium chromium cobalt < 5 mg/kg < 3 mg/kg < 10 mg/kg < 20 mg/kg < 20 mg/kg copper lead nickel mercury selenium < 20 mg/kg 20 mg/kg < 20 mg/kg < 1 mg/kg < 1 mg/kg

On average, Sicopal® Yellow L 1120 contains 58 % of bismuth, 14 % of vanadate and 2 % of zinc. Halogen content TA-Luft MAK value By recipe, Sicopal® Yellow L 1120 does not contain halogens. para 3.1.4 – class III (vanadium) (Germany) orientation value, alveolar-passing dust fraction: 0.1 mg/m³ (Germany) According to tests on standard samples, Sicopal® Yellow L 1120 meets the purity requirements of the following food legislations (Type 8081) (also see Heavy metal contents): Europe Germany Italy Spain France USA Resolution AP (89) I BfR Recommendation IX, 190th information of June 1, 1994 Decreto Ministeriale of March 21, 1973 Resolucion del April 11, 1982 de la Subsecretaria de Sanidad not listed in the French positive list (Brochure No. 1227) not listed in the FDA positive list (21 CFR, § 178. 3297).
