Before using the thermometer set the clock with the
current date and time. This enables the temperature
readings in memory to reflect when they were taken and
allows the room temperature to be displayed in rest
mode. See “Room Temperature” below.

When the thermometer is at rest (powered off mode) the
room temperature is shown on the screen (look for the
icon in the lower right hand corner) ONLY if the time

placed in direct sunlight, near a heater/fan/air

The Surface Scan mode is used to read the
temperature of surfaces such as milk bottles and
bathwater. It will help you to determine if the object’s
temperature is suitable. Always manually double check
to ensure safety.

If the thermometer detects an ear reading temperature
above 99.5°F (37.5°C), there will be a long beep
followed by three short beeps. In addition the red
lighted bar above the SCAN button illuminates. For
temperatures below 99.5°F (37.5°C), the lighted bar
The thermometer stores a total of 9 memory sets. Each
temperature is recorded along with the time and date.
Press the button, after you hear the 2 beeps,
press the again and the last temperature is
displayed. You will see the icon above the flashing
time/date. Press the button for 1 second*, you will
see the memory number (1-9), release the button
Memory and the recorded temperature will appear.
NOTE: The reading that is stored is the last reading
taken before going into rest mode. Ex. If 3 readings are
taken one after the other, only the last (3 rd) reading will
be held in memory. If the thermometer enters rest mode
between each reading all will be stored in memory.
*Press for 1 second only, if pressed for more than 3
seconds the screen will return to SET mode.
In the rest mode, only the date, time and room
temperature are displayed. Press and hold the “Scan”

Switch button. After 3 seconds the F icon will be switched to

Using the Thermometer
Always ensure the ear piece is clean and not damaged and the ear is clean
1. Taking Ear Temperature:
Turn the thermometer on by pressing the button. The thermometer is ready
for use after the icon is displayed and two beeps sound (see figure 1). Before
taking a second measurement, wait for the icon to stop flashing and 2 beeps
sound. Taking a measurement before this will result in an error message.
It is recommended that you measure 3 times with the same ear.

Gently pull the ear back to straighten the ear canal (Fig.1.1) and position the
probe into the ear canal. For the most accurate reading, aim the probe towards
the membrane of the eardrum (Fig.1.2). Press and hold the “SCAN” button
until the audible beep. Remove the probe from ear; the temperature will be
displayed on the screen.
NOTE: To avoid the risk of cross contamination, clean the probe according to
the “Care and Cleaning” section after each use.
2. Taking Room/Surface Temperature
• With the thermometer turned on, press and hold the button,
then press the “SCAN” button once and release the button.
The icon on the screen indicates the thermometer is in
scan mode (see figure 2).
• When the “SCAN” button is pressed, the room temperature is
immediately displayed. Holding the “SCAN” button, the
temperature will change with movement. Test the scan mode
by first taking a room temperature reading. Holding the
“SCAN” button, walk towards a heater or air conditioner and
note the temperature change.
• To take the fixed temperature of a specific object (ex. bath
water) hold the thermometer close to the object, release the
“SCAN” button and the temperature is displayed.
DO NOT SUBMERGE THE THERMOMETER OR PROBE INTO ANY
LIQUIDS. To gauge a liquid temperature, hold the probe above the liquid;
submerging in liquid will result in damage to the thermometer.
To return to Ear Temperature mode, press and hold the button, then
press the “SCAN” button one time and release the button. The
thermometer will beep twice and display the icon.
When Not in Use:
The thermometer shuts off if idle for more than 1 minute to preserve battery life.
