Functions

Before using the thermometer set the clock with the
current date and time. This enables the temperature
readings in memory to reflect when they were taken and
Clock
allows the room temperature to be displayed in rest 
            mode. See “Room Temperature” below.
 Please see the “Setting the Clock” section for
            step by step instructions

                                      1
When the thermometer is at rest (powered off mode) the
room temperature is shown on the screen (look for the
icon in the lower right hand corner) ONLY if the time
Room and date have been set. If the time and date have not
Temperature been set, the screen will remain blank when not in use.
The room temperature may not reflect a true reading if
placed in direct sunlight, near a heater/fan/air
conditioner or close to objects that affect the reading.
The temperature updates every 15 minutes.
The product and information contained herein are
not meant to be a substitute for the advice provided
Ear by a medical professional and this thermometer is
Temperature intended for home use only.
 Please see “Using the Thermometer” section for
            step by step instructions.
The Surface Scan mode is used to read the
temperature of surfaces such as milk bottles and
bathwater. It will help you to determine if the object’s
Surface
temperature is suitable. Always manually double check
Scan Mode
            to ensure safety.
 Please see “Using the Thermometer” section for
            step by step instructions.
If the thermometer detects an ear reading temperature
above 99.5°F (37.5°C), there will be a long beep
followed by three short beeps. In addition the red
Fever Alarm
lighted bar above the SCAN button illuminates. For
temperatures below 99.5°F (37.5°C), the lighted bar
            displays green.
The thermometer stores a total of 9 memory sets. Each
temperature is recorded along with the time and date.
 Press the button, after you hear the 2 beeps,
press the again and the last temperature is
displayed. You will see the icon above the flashing
time/date. Press the button for 1 second*, you will
see the memory number (1-9), release the button
Memory and the recorded temperature will appear.
NOTE: The reading that is stored is the last reading
taken before going into rest mode. Ex. If 3 readings are
taken one after the other, only the last (3 rd) reading will
be held in memory. If the thermometer enters rest mode
between each reading all will be stored in memory.
*Press for 1 second only, if pressed for more than 3
seconds the screen will return to SET mode.

                                           2

Using the Thermometer
Always ensure the ear piece is clean and not damaged and the ear is clean
and dry.

1. Taking Ear Temperature:
Turn the thermometer on by pressing the button. The thermometer is ready
for use after the icon is displayed and two beeps sound (see figure 1). Before
taking a second measurement, wait for the icon to stop flashing and 2 beeps
sound. Taking a measurement before this will result in an error message.
It is recommended that you measure 3 times with the same ear.

                 Figure 1
                                            .

Gently pull the ear back to straighten the ear canal (Fig.1.1) and position the

                                        4
probe into the ear canal. For the most accurate reading, aim the probe towards
the membrane of the eardrum (Fig.1.2). Press and hold the “SCAN” button
until the audible beep. Remove the probe from ear; the temperature will be
displayed on the screen.

NOTE: To avoid the risk of cross contamination, clean the probe according to
the “Care and Cleaning” section after each use.

2. Taking Room/Surface Temperature

        • With the thermometer turned on, press and hold the button,
then press the “SCAN” button once and release the button.
The icon on the screen indicates the thermometer is in

        • When the “SCAN” button is pressed, the room temperature is
immediately displayed. Holding the “SCAN” button, the
temperature will change with movement. Test the scan mode
by first taking a room temperature reading. Holding the
“SCAN” button, walk towards a heater or air conditioner and
                note the temperature change.

        • To take the fixed temperature of a specific object (ex. bath
water) hold the thermometer close to the object, release the
“SCAN” button and the temperature is displayed.

DO NOT SUBMERGE THE THERMOMETER OR PROBE INTO ANY
LIQUIDS. To gauge a liquid temperature, hold the probe above the liquid;
submerging in liquid will result in damage to the thermometer.

When Not in Use:

The thermometer shuts off if idle for more than 1 minute to preserve battery life.
The screen displays the date, time and room temperature if the clock has been
set.

Clean the probe after each use to ensure an accurate reading and avoid cross
contamination. (See the “Care and Cleaning” section for details.) Remember
to put the Probe Cap on when not in use.

IMPORTANT NOTES
The ear probe is the most delicate part of the
thermometer. Use extreme care when cleaning to
              avoid damage.

After taking a measurement, clean with an

Care and cap closed and away from any liquids and direct sunlight. Do not
Cleaning submerge into liquids. Wait 20 minutes after

Take care not to hold the thermometer too long
when taking a temperature. Body heat from the
user’s hand may affect the reading.
When the flashing battery symbol, is displayed, the battery should
                be replaced.
