ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:
The organization, a for-profit, is K.R.’s Processing, Incorporated a small part-time business that started
in 1990 and offers computer system designs and recruiting and staffing services to other businesses
and organizations. I am the principal, president, of the business and until mid-January 2007 devoted at
least 40% of my leisure hours to the business after leaving a full-time day job. I started a grant writing
services component of the business to offer grant writing services to 501(c)(3) organizations and other
companies, for a small fee. This component of the business plans to showcase local art, photography,
and music talent in D.C. on the grant writing services website. I am now interested in funding for an
idea I have that provides a place for holding music-practice sessions that will increase professional
musical talent and enlightenment and provide opportunities for sharing art, photography, and music
with other adult musicians age 40+ and their families, in Washington, D.C., and at the same time,
through these sessions, reduce the physical inactivity occurring in disadvantaged adults age 40+.
BIO OF THE PRINCIPAL:
Kathy Allen the president of the business earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from
the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) in 1983. Her concentration was in computer
information and systems science. She attended a few music courses there while completing the
requirements for her bachelor’s degree. Until January 2007, she held government jobs for 27 years in
the Washington, D.C. area, when she was able to retire early on a government reorganization and
buyout. From the years 1985 – 2007 she worked as a Computer and IT Specialist, and before then in
other government jobs as a clerk-typist, secretary, and computer operator. In 1990 she started and
during her government career operated the business on a part-time basis, during her leisure hours. In
1998 she started the M. Sci. graduate degree program, in Computer Systems Management, at the
University of Maryland University College (UMUC) in College Park, MD, and completed one-third of
the courses for that degree. She has diligently worked in her leisure hours to build the business, offer
services and market the business services to other small businesses. After attending a non-profit grant
writing course in the spring of 2006 she decided to offer grant-writing services to non-profit
organizations and other small businesses, at a nominal fee, and in September 2006 developed that
service into a component of the business. She also created a web page for the grant writing services
and a web page to showcase local D.C. art, photography, and music talent, including her own, as a
service of the grant writing services and the GWS-MSV project. Both web pages will be a component
of the grant writing services. She wants to build the GWS-MSV practice sessions for disadvantaged
musicians age 40+ with two years or less of experience and thus the need for funding for the project.
