ANNOUNCEMENTS:
As we begin the fall athletic season, please show your support for our football, cross country, volleyball, tennis,,
swimming and golf teams as well as our band and forensics team by attending their events and cheering for Riverside.
Remember to display positive sportsmanship at all times. Be polite to our visitors at home events and as guests at
away events. Cheer FOR Riverside. Please do not cheer against our opponents or the referees, coaches or judges. All
of our participants, coaches and directors deserve our positive support at all times. Your conduct represents not only
yourself, but your family, your school and our community. Riverside is a first class school; our conduct should be the
same. Also remember that all of these events, whether home or away, are school events. The possession or use of
alcohol, drugs, tobacco or weapons are strictly prohibited. Mr. Crowley, Principal
Do you have school spirit? CENTRAL SPIRIT COMMITTEE (CSC) is looking for freshmen to help with pep rallies,
banners, and Homecoming. If you are interested, pick up an application from the CSC bulletin board outside of
Guidance. Applications are due back by August 31. Our first meeting will be Tuesday, September 7. Current CSC
members will meet in H125 at 2:50 or K110 at 3:45 on Monday, August 30.
The Riverside Youth in Government Registration Packet can now be accessed and printed at

G118 if you have any questions. Parent meeting for all veteran and first time delegates to go over forms, payments,
and policies on Tuesday, Aug. 31, at 7:00pm in the RHS cafeteria.
All students interested in a position as an attorney and/or witness with the Riverside Youth in Government Mock
Court Program should attend an informational meeting on Wed. Sept. 1 at either 2:48 or 3:45 in G108. This meeting
should last 30-60 minutes. If you are unable to make the meeting please see Mr. Dejesa or Ms. McAllister for the
application.
All Academic Team Members(new and old) need to attend the meeting on Tues. Aug. 31 in K106 at 7:45am.
Students who are interested in a career in Firefighting or Emergency Services should see Ms. Giles in E128. Boiling
Springs Fire Department is offering a wonderful program to allow students to actually work along side firefighters
during the program. Come to E128 for more information.
Students interested in Health Sciences should see Ms. Giles in E128 for information about a program offered by
Greenville Hospital System. Students will receive hands on experience related to the Health care industry. Please stop
by E128 for more information.
Limited number of agendas available in the School Store. Stop by during lunch or after school.
Proofs for school pictures should be distributed through 2nd period today. If you do not receive your proofs, please
see Mrs. Sherrill G110 between classes or during 1st, 5th or 6th periods. Several pictures had no name, come by G110 to
identify. Retake and makeup pictures are scheduled for Sept. 13 in the morning. Students will be given a pass back to
class. Students who failed to have a picture taken during registration should take a picture at this time if you want
your picture in the yearbook. Students who wish to have a retake, should bring original proofs with them. If you do
not bring your proof, you will not be allowed to take another picture or be given a pass back to class. Students who
return to class without a pass will be considered as a cut. Also, if you are in violation of the dress code in your picture,
you will need to retake your picture. If you are unsure, show your proof to an Administrator or Mrs. Sherrill G110.
Examples are visible facial piercing(other than ear), tank tops with straps less than 2”, tops that are too revealing,
sunglasses, non-human colored hair or holes in clothing. Refer to the RHS handbook, pg. 5, for a complete list.
Step Team tryouts will be held on Tues. Aug. 31, Sept. 1 and 2 in the Auditorium from 3:50 – 5:00. You must have a
permission form signed by parent/guardian to participate and you must attend all three days of tryouts. Any
questions, see Mrs. Bianchi or Mr. Hubbard.
Seniors who still need to schedule a senior portrait need to call Piedmont Portraits at 834-4261. The date for make ups
is Sept. 11 at Piedmont Portraits.
Students wishing to participate in the University of South Carolina Novice Speech Tournament to be held on Sat. Sept.
18 should sign up in G108. Mrs. McAllister’s room by Friday of this week. A sign up sheet is posted outside the door.
Student s should list the event in which they wish to participate. Cost of the tournament is $10.00 payable by check to
Riverside High School no later than Sept. 8.
SPORTS SHORTS:
Girls basketball practice during September will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00-5:15 at Riverside Baptist Church. Dates
are Sept. 2, 7, 9, 14, 16, and 21. You must have a physical to participate.
Boys basketball practice during September will begin Wed. Sept. 1 on the track at 4:00. You must have a physical to participate.
Riverside hosts their first cross country meet of the season, Wed. Sept. 1 at East Riverside Park. The boys race at 5pm, followed by
the girls at 5:30pm. The girl’s team is ranked 2nd in the state and will race against the #4 and #5 AAA teams(Eastside and Wade
Hampton). The boy’s team is ranked 4th in the state and will race #2 and #8 AAA teams(Wade Hampton and Greer). Come out and
support YOUR Warriors.
