2.1 Curricular Aspects:
2.1.1: Curricular Design & The syllabus prescribed by Kachchh
Development: University is followed.
Almost all head of the departments play
a role in curriculum design and
development as members of the
University Board of Studies.
Integration of ICT in curriculum is just
initiated.
2.1.2: Academic Flexibility: The College offers 2 UG,2 PG,2 Career
oriented Courses & one communication
skill course.
The College offers horizontal mobility
to students in programme options
The College has offered 5 self funded
courses.
2.1.3: Feedback on Curriculum: The College is yet to formalize a
system of feedback from
students/alumni/
parents/employers/industries/academic
peers & community for curriculum
enrichment.
2.1.4: Curriculum Updates: The curricula are revised following
UGC and University guidelines.
Last major revision in a majority of
courses was in 2007-08 by university.
2.1.5: Best Practices in Curricular Introduced courses of Disaster
Aspects: Management, Applied mineralogy and
Basics of Earth Quake science.
2.2 Teaching – Learning &
Evaluation:
2.2.1: Admission Process and Admission process is given wide

and advertisement in Newspapers.
Admissions are made on the basis of
merit index at the qualifying
examination and around 30% of
students belong to SC/ST/OBC
category.
Transparency in admission procedure
and strict adherence to Rules of
reservations are ensured.
2.2.2: Catering to the Diverse The College is yet to develop
Needs: mechanism for mentoring students and
conducting tutorial classes.
Slow and advanced learners are
identified by teachers during class
room teaching.
Remedial programmes are yet to be
introduced.
2.2.3: Teaching-Learning Process: The College has adopted healthy
practice of preparing academic calendar
before the commencement of the
academic session.
Lecture method is supplemented by
OHP, Audio aids, slide projector,
charts, and model in some departments.
ICT based teaching process is not
adopted extensively.
2.2.4: Teacher Quality: Teachers are well qualified: 10 teachers
with PhD (25%) and four with M.Phil
degree and rest are post graduates.
Teachers are recruited as per the
guidelines of the UGC by the Gujarat
Public Service Commission.
All the faculty members have
undergone orientation and refresher
courses as prescribed the UGC.
2.2.5: Evaluation Process and Annual system of examination in UG
Reforms: and semester system in PG courses is
followed.
As per university prescriptions 30%
weightage is given to two internal tests
and Seminars/Assignments.

Adoption of an open policy and
ensuring constructive feedback to
students through the internal
assessment is yet to be done in various
subjects.
2.2.6: Best Practice in Teaching- Giving industry exposure to students in
Learning and Evaluation (If any): Geology and Chemistry department.
2.3 Research , Consultancy &
Extension:
2.3.1: Promotion of Research: The college does not have a Research
Committee
The college is yet to provide a
budgetary provision for research.
T.A. & D.A. and duty leave are granted
to attend seminars and conferences.
2.3.2: Research and Publications Two teachers of the college are
Output: recognized guides for PhD degree and a
few teachers of the college have
participated in seminars and
conferences at state and national levels.
Four DST funded projects have been
completed and two are in progress in
the department of Geology, besides
three minor UGC projects in other
departments.
The faculty has contributed a few
papers in referred journals and more
than a dozen of popular articles in
various subjects in addition to books
published by Gujarati faculty.
2.3.3: Consultancy: The college has potential to render
Consultancy services in the area of
Earth Sciences, Psychology and
English language communication skill
development.
2.3.4: Extension Activities: The college NSS and NCC units take
up extension programs such as Tree
Plantation, Literacy campaign, Blood
donation camps, Health and Hygiene
awareness among all the local people.
During the year 2006 one cadet
participated in Republic Day Parade in

New Delhi.
College is yet to take up formal
community linkage activities.
2.3.5: Collaborations: Academic collaboration of the geology
department with other institutes of
national importance is seen.
2.3.6: Best Practices in Research, Contribution of NSS towards Blood
Consultancy & Extension( If any): Donation and NCC activities.
2.4 Infrastructure and Learning
Resources:
2.4.1: Physical Facilities for Spacious campus with 25.2 acres of
learning: land with built up area of 12046 Sqm
having 28 rooms, 6 Labs,
Amphitheatre, administrative office,
museum, common room, sports
complex etc.
The institution is yet to organize
optimal use of its infrastructure.
2.4.2: Maintenance of The maintenance work is being done by
Infrastructure: the P.W.D. of the state Government.
The college does not get Budget
regularly for the maintenance.
2.4.3: Library as a Learning Library Advisory committee to look
Resources after all activities of the library is
constituted.
The Library has 10500 books and
subscribes to 18 journals and 14
magazines.
The absence of a regular librarian has
hampered the development and proper
use of library.
2.4.4: ICT as Learning Resources: The college has developed its own
Website and the Wi-Fi internet facility
has been installed.
The College has provided a computer
to each faculty member but their
availability to students is yet to be
ensured.
Public Address System and CCTV net
is in place, however the functional use
of these ICT facilities in a big way is
yet to take place.

2.4.5 : Other Facilities: Facilities of Hostels for Boys & Girls,
Toilets, RO Drinking water are
available
Ladies common room available.
There is Gymnasium and ample
amount of sports fields which need to
be developed and used functionally for
sports.
2.4.5 : Best Practices in the Establishment of Wi-Fi facility, RO
development of Infrastructure and drinking water, PAS and CCTV.

2.5 Students Support and
Progression:
2.5.1: Student Progression: College performance in University
Examination is better than University
average.
The system of monitoring the
progression of students for jobs and
higher education exists.
Noticeable placement of Geology and
chemistry students in local industry.
2.5.2 Student Support: The college annually publishes
information brochure containing
necessary information.
Government sponsored scholarship are
available for socio-economically
weaker sections.
The College organizes Job Mela with
companies.
2.5.3 Student Activities: The College has recently formed the
Alumni Association, which appeared
highly motivated and committed to the
development of the institution.
Students are active in cultural and
social activities.
The students have excelled in
volleyball and Kho-Kho sports
activities.

2.6 Governance & Leadership:
2.6.1: Institutional Vision & Leadership The institutional vision is in tune with
the National objectives of higher
education.
The relatively young officiating
principal has provided a good direction
for the academic and infrastructure
development of the college.
2.6.2: Organizational Arrangements: The system of Government governance
through Commissioner of Higher
Education is in operation.
Institution is managed by the
Principal with the help of a number of
committees.
A good system of accountability of the
organizational arrangement is yet to be
evolved.
2.6.3: Strategy Development and Development of programmes works on
Deployment: the collective wisdom of the faculty
only.
A collective thrust for infrastructure
development seen.
No strategy for perspective planning
exists.
2.6.4: Human Resource Management: The government policies are not
facilitative in the filling up of vacant
positions.
The government policy of frequent
transfers is detrimental to the
upholding of moral and commitment of
the faculty.
The internal human resource
management aspect in terms of support
and professional growth is in
operation.
2.6.5: Financial Management and Government grant is optimally utilized.
Resource Mobilization: A system of internal as well as
government audit is in place.
The systematized management of
accounts using computers is yet to be
developed.

2.7 Innovative Practices:
2.7.1: Internal Quality Assurance Efforts to enhance communication
System: skills and add value to students’
performance seen in the department of
English and Sanskrit.
No formal system structure exists for
ensuring internal quality.
2.7.2: Inclusive Practices: The institution has established women
development cell to address gender
related issues.
No specific programmes exist for
monitoring the academic growth of
students from disadvantaged sections.
2.7.3: Stakeholder Relationships: The institution has excellent rapport
with alumni and parents
The increase in demand for admission
to the college by girls’ students is
noticed.
Students have good relationship with
faculty.

3.1: Institutional Strengths: Availability of sufficient land with
spacious building for future
development.
Pro-active, supportive and committed
alumni association for institutional
development.
Being the largest and oldest college of
newly formed Kachchh University, it
has a position of importance in the
University.
Availability of Electronic and ICT
infrastructure.
Access to nearby industries and their
support.
3.2: Institutional Weaknesses: The concentration on Gujarati
medium.
The policy of the Government to keep
a large number of faculties on ad-hoc

basis.
Being a Government college it suffers
due to lack of autonomy.
Frequent transfer of the faculties.
Inadequate thrust on research.
3.3: Institutional Opportunities: Starting of industry oriented course
suitable for the upcoming industries in
the area.
Exploitation of the college potential
for the development of English
communication skills of the students.
Exploitation of the goodwill and
support of the alumni.
Expansion and getting autonomous
status.
Societal linkage and sports skill
development of students.
3.4: Institutional Challenges: Up-holding of the morale of ad-hoc
teachers through their regularization.
Creating a research culture amongst
the faculty.
After the earthquake devastation
restoration of the greenery of the
campus and functionality of the sports
fields.
Development of self regulatory
internal quality assurance systems.
Involvement of the students in quality
assurance programmes.
Section IV: Recommendations for Quality Enhancement of the Institution

The institution may evolve standard feedback mechanisms for regular upgradation
of curriculum.
The institution needs to develop formal mechanisms for identifying diverse
learning needs of the students along with proper remedial programs.
The teaching learning process needs enrichment through extensive use of the
available ICT infrastructure
Proper incentives and mechanisms be evolved for the professional skill
development both in teaching and research of the faculty.
The institution should ensure that the internal assessments done provide the

feedback needed for the improvement of students’ quality of learning and
performance.
The faculty to be motivated to approach various funding agencies for research.
Teachers who have registered for PhD programmes be encouraged and provided
necessary support for early completion of their thesis.
The college may introduce market oriented PG courses not only to make the
optimum utilization of its physical infrastructure but also move in the direction for
seeking autonomy.
The college should exploit its potential to launch socially relevant courses in the
areas like Industrial Psychology, Foreign languages and translations, Mineral,
Logistics and Industrial Management etc.
Immediate effort is needed in the development of Computer Application Skills of
both the teaching and non teaching staff.
The library needs special attention to surf as an effective learning support for
students and the teachers alike.
Student support facilities like canteen, free access to internet, sports facilities,
health and other recreation facilities need augmentation.
I agree with the observations of the Peer Team as mentioned in this report.
