Ronald McDonald House
Charities of Augusta, Inc.
938 Greene Street, Augusta, GA 30901
One of the most valuable volunteer opportunities a group or individual can do for Ronald McDonald House
(RMH) is to provide a hot meal for our families. Many of the families who stay with us are often under
financial burdens and eating in restaurants day after day can be very expensive. Families frequently come
back to the House late in the evening after a long stressful day at the hospital, totally exhausted. Knowing
that a tasty home cooked meal will be waiting for them can boost their spirits and remind them that someone
in Augusta is thinking of their needs.
HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE?
ACS encourages taking casseroles, or “one dish meals.” RMH appreciate receiving “one dish meals” that can
be frozen for days when they don’t have a meal donor scheduled or the meal doesn’t arrive for one reason or
another. This aspect of the meal program has proven to be very beneficial. ACS HS students will earn three
hours of community service for each casserole brought into RMH. One casserole = three hours, two
casseroles = six hours, etc. Bring your community service hour form with you so the staff at RMH can verify
your participation. Forms must be verified by a RMH staffer in order for the student to receive credit.
WHAT KIND OF MEALS WILL I NEED TO PREPARE?
Keep it simple – nothing fancy! Select a casserole consisting of meat, vegetables, chicken pot pie type, etc.
Keep in mind that the families do not eat at the same time as they are dependent on the schedule of their
child, doctor and the hospital. Some groups bring desserts and drinks, some only the main entrees. We ask
that you bring the casserole in disposable containers so dishes are not an issue. Please review the Meal
Program Safe Serve Guidelines and tips before preparing the meals, on the ACS web site.
HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL I NEED TO PREPARE FOR?
We suggest that you call the office the day before you are scheduled to provide a meal and ask for the number
of people staying in the house at that time. The number will vary from 10 to 25 people.
WHAT ELSE WILL I NEED TO KNOW?
You do not need to bring plates, napkins, cups or silverware. Those items are always available at the house.
We ask that meals be delivered by 8:00pm unless other arrangements have been made with our staff.
Thank you for your interest in Ronald McDonald House Charities of Augusta’s Meal Program. The families
greatly appreciate your support. Please feel free to call regarding this and other volunteer opportunities.
