Kenzo Kusuda
Magnifying the atmosphere of beautiful little details, I integrate sophisticated sampling techniques in
my compositions, live performance. I have composed music for ensembles, dance- en theatre
performances, television and created sound installations. When performing live I use game controllers
such as the Wii Remote, and software instruments to tweak live captured sounds in an intuitive way.
After years of playing bass guitar in different bands I became increasingly interested in electronic and
electroacoustic music, algorithmic composition and sound design. I studied history at the State
University Groningen, I finished a Sonology course at the Royal Conservatory in Den Haag and I
have participated in workshops at STEIM, Dogtroep and with Han Bennink and Magpie Dance Music
Company. I use the cinematic and dramatic qualities of my music when working with theatre makers,
choreographers, filmmakers and visual artists. I have worked with choreographers Kenzo Kusuda,
Martin Butler, Ivana Muller, Maria Ines Villasmil, Jose Navas, Luis Lara Malvacias and the Guangdong
Modern Dance Company. I have performed throughout Europe, in China, South Korea, the United
States and Venezuela.
I have worked with choreographer / visual artist Luis Lara Malvacias in Danspace/St. Marks Church,
Dance Theatre Workshop and The Kitchen in New York. The Guangdong Modern Dance Company
from China invited me in the spring of 2007 to compose the score for their new piece "Forward For
Forward" from choreographer Liu Qi. I also performed in Guangzhou, Shenzen and Beijing. Recently I
have worked with Spanish choreographers Roser Lopez Espinosa and Pere Gay I Faura.
"The Gasometer Universe" is the title of my winning composition for the MONO competition organised
by the German Association for Electroacoustic Music. In the summer of 2008 I was invited to the OMI
International Musicians Residency in Ghent, New York State. My musical alter ego Vinkepeezer
released a split LP together with Morsanek, at the new recordlabel Kazemat early 2009.
Together with Ibrahim Quraishi and Zhang Xian I presented the Installation / performance “The Red
Chamber” at the Dutch Culture Centre in Shanghai in March 2010 as part of the Shanghai World
Expo. In 2011 I performed “Amanda & the black void of space” in Copenhagen, Amsterdam and New

York, a collaboration with Luis Lara Malvacias /3 class citizen. My spacial composition for the Wave
Field Synthesis system from the Game Of Life “Cosmological Flight” premiered in september
2011 at the Gaudeamus Muziekweek in Utrecht.
