Season’s Greetings
Can you believe you’re getting a letter??! This is our first time at a Christmas one. So
here it goes....
Allison took the big step into kindergarten this fall. She goes to school afternoons five days a
week. The school bus picks her up at Grandma’s house (my babysitter) and brings her back to
Grandma’s after school. The class has music, swimming, computers and library. She loves
school and enjoys riding the bus. It’s a good thing because she rides about two hours a day.
Allison has mentioned a special boy in her class too. Dad thinks its “cute”. But I think he’ll
change his mind.
Andrea (Anna) is four years old. She has adjusted well to the extra time she has by
herself with Allison being in school. She missed her sister at first, but has been keeping herself
busy with a new kitten at Grandma’s. Anna loves being outside. She takes lunch to the field for
Dad when he’s farming, rides in the combine and trucks and goes for parts with Dad. She takes
a lot of interest in what Dad does on the farm. He’ll have a good helper when she gets older.
It was another wet year. Harvest was long this fall because Dale planted more row crop.
The beans and sunflowers did well. He has also been busy with his road grader. It’s hard to
believe Dale has been blading and plowing roads for 14 years. The business has changed
some too. He purchased another road grader in July because he contracted with two more
townships. He maintains 157 miles of road.
It has been a very busy summer working at Wild Rice Electric Coop. The area was hit by
two storms on July 12 and 13. The damage covered the southern part of the Cooperative’s
service area. There were 7600 customers without power at some point. Within nine days,
service was restored to all but a handful of customers with lake properties. Many of the area
Cooperatives sent linemen to help. Needless to say, the office and phones were busy too! You
don’t know what you are missing until you are out of electricity.
This summer we went to Park Rapids for our family vacation. We visited Deertown. The
girls still comment about the deer eating corn from their hands. We also visited an amusement
park. Dale rode the go-carts with the girls. They loved it. I preferred just watching. The girls also
enjoyed driving power wheels on their own. Allison took driving very seriously. Anna on the
other hand, had a hard time controlling the foot peddle and to steer at the same time. Glad they
have a few years before going behind the wheel of a car.
The Holidays are almost here. It’s such a great time of year. We have so much to be thankful
for. Our daughters are a daily reminder that they are truly a gift from Heaven. They brighten our
lives in so many ways.
Have a wonderful Christmas! We wish you God’s best in 1996.
