                                                                                                                                    Friday night at Grundy Center High
                                                                                                                                    School.
                                                                                                                                       The Spartans (4-8) led all the way
                                                                                                                                    on their way to their second win in
                                                                                                                                    their last eight contests.
                                                                                                                                       “I thought our kids played very
                                                                                                                                    hard and, especially in the second
                                                                                                                                    half, played tougher against their
                                                                                                                                    pressure defense,” first-year Spartan
                                                                                                                                    coach Jason Kirkpatrick said.
                                                                                                                                       “We got to the line and have to
                                                                                                                                    continue to work on making the free
                                                                                                                                    throws,” he said. “One of our points
                                                                                                                                    of emphasis is getting to the line, and
                                                                                                                                    we did a good job of that.”
                                                                                                                                       The Spartans led 14-10 after a
                                                                                                                                    quarter and 27-25 at halftime. They
                                                                                                                                    pulled away to a 46-35 lead in the
                                                                                                                                    third quarter and never let the Tigers
                                                                                                                                    get closer than nine points in the fi-
                                                                                                                                    nal eight minutes.
                                                                                                                                       A key for the Spartans was limit-
                                                                                                                                    ing their turnovers in the second half.
                                                                                                                                    After turning the ball over 14 times
                                                                                                                                    in the first 16 minutes they had just
                                                                                                                                    four miscues in the final two quar-
