COMMUNITY
ADVANCEMENT
A W A R D S
For the second consecutive year,
the Developers & Builders
Alliance has honored outstanding
individuals and organizations in
the development and
construction industry.
These award recipients have made major contributions to the growth
of our communities. This year, the event was hosted at the exclusive
Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, which provided a historic and
exquisite setting for this year’s DBA Community Advancement
Awards ceremony. More than 400 guests attended, including
high-end developers, builders, architects and major suppliers in the
industry. In addition, several special guests were present; the Mayor
of Sunny Isles, Mr. Norman Edelcup; the Mayor of City of Hallandale
Beach, Mrs. Joy E. Cooper; the Mayor City of West Palm Beach, Mrs
Lois Frankel, and Mr. Alejandro Sanz, the representative of the
government of the Canary Island, Spain.
Pre-lunch activities had guests actively engaged in networking and
socializing amidst the palm trees and orchids, anxiously awaiting the
presentation of the awards. Mr. Donald Trump –opened the
luncheon via a pre-recorded message, with personal remarks of
welcome and humorous words of disappointment for not winning a
DBA award. Better luck next year, Mr. Trump! Mayors of surrounding
cities, including the City of Orlando, also sent their messages of
encouragement. Mr. Gil Dezer, DBA President and the Masters of
Ceremony, opened the event with a fast-paced recognition of major
projects and developmental efforts.
Over 1,850 project nominations were received; and we would like,
once more, to congratulate all of them for their part in setting the
industry standard.
After a delicious lunch, the awards presentation began with
recognition to AC Graphics for being the recipient of the Special
Publicity Award and the Major Sponsor of the event. Followed by an
outstanding list of top-quality talent as follows:
The 2006 DBA’s Most Valuable Member was awarded to Mr. Benton
Launerts, “for his continuos support, dedication and strong
commitment to our organization”
2006 DBA Landmark Award was presented to Mr. Hector Dasso, Real
Estate Development Group, for The Bridgewater Miami project. “This
project strategically sits as a testament to the early vision of this
development group.”
Mr. Michael Samuel, Midtown Group, was the recipient of the 2006
DBA Urban-Redevelopment project (midtown Miami).

is subject to a period of initial public comment, the Initiative will be rolled out in
phases, providing as much advance notice as possible to the affected public to
enable them to meet the terms of the new guidelines. The proposed timeline will
be as follows:
December 31, 2006 – Requirement applied to all air and sea travel to or from
Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda.
December 31, 2007 – Requirement extended to all land border crossings as well
as air and sea travel.
