Teignbridge Trotters Social Events 2011
Dennis‟ Summer BBQ! - Sunday 29th May
With Mr & Mrs Chairman taking a break from hosting „The
Chairman‟s BBQ‟ this year, Dennis Milstead has offered to
provide the venue for this popular annual event, which is the
Trotter social event of the year and a must for your diary.
All Trotters and their families are welcome at the Milstead‟s
residence, in Blagdon, near Paignton, where facilities include
a swimming pool and trampoline for the kids!
The party starts at 3pm, but Dennis will be leading a social
run at 2pm, for those wishing to enjoy a nice rural run before
the fun starts! Just don‟t forget to bring a bottle or two of your
favourite tipple!
Club Camp - Friday 17th June - Sunday 19th June
(longer if you like)
The annual camping get-together for Trotters and their
families. This year will be going to the lovely Stowford Farm
Meadows, nr Combe Martin, in North Devon. This is always a
great family weekend and this year‟s chosen site is a delight,
with something for all, whatever the weather. Check out the
website for venue details („www.stowford.co.uk‟) but please
contact Anna or Ian Langler to make a booking and for info.
See the February edition of The Trotter for more details,
Club Trip - Saturday 2nd July
For our annual day-trip this year Chairman has organized a
double-decker bus to take us to East Devon for the “Otter Rail &
River Run”. This multi-terrain run should suit all runners and
there is also a 1.5 mile fun run for the kids. The bus sets off from
Teignmouth, picking up at Kingsteignton, Dyrons and Drum
Bridges. A post-race hostelry has been selected where we can
all partake of post-race meal…or even a beer or two. This is a
really fun family day out. Full details were in the January Trotter
magazine.
Trottettes Theatre Trip! - Friday 15th July at 1930hrs
After the success of „Calendar Girls last year, Clare
Youngman is planning another trip to the Princess
Theatre. This year the Trottettes will be off to see „Dinner
Ladies‟, which is based on the BBC sitcom and starring
two of the TV cast.
The plan is to meet up earlier in the afternoon and enjoy
the afternoon and early evening in Torquay, before heading
off to the theatre.
If you are interested in seeing the show and enjoying a fun
night out, in the company of fellow Trottettes, then please
let Clare know by 26th February.
The Haytor Heller - Saturday 16th July 18:30hrs
Following on from the success of last year‟s event, Race
Director Buzz Terrill and Chief Marshall Rod “Rodders”
Payne are planning bigger and better things for this year.
The race will again be held at the popular time of 6.30pm on
the Saturday evening and will be followed by an evening of
live music with a camp fire and BBQ. This year there is the
option of camping, either in the adjacent campsite or in the
bunkhouse at Broadlees.
As usual, help is needed for marshalling – what a great way
to spend a Saturday evening! See our website for full details.
Summer Boat Trip! - Saturday 23rd July
New for 2011, a different kind of social event than we have
tried before. We have hired the pride of the Stuart Line Cruises
fleet for a 2½ hour evening cruise along the picturesque river
Exe and around the bay to Teignmouth.
Prior to the cruise, our very own BBQ king, Chairman Rog will
lay on a BBQ on Exmouth beach for us to fill up and enjoy the
late afternoon sun, before we join the cruise. On board there
will be a disco, with a dance floor and two licensed bars,
offering normal pub prices! At around 1030pm we will be
landed on the back beach in Teignmouth, and from there we can take the opportunity for
more drinks and socialising in the many fine hostelries along the back beach.
Full details were in the October Trotter, but further details were in the Feb issue.
Totnes 10k Trial Run - Wednesday 3rd August 18:40 & 19:00hrs
We get a chance to sample the course of our very own
Totnes 10k race, which is held on the following
Sunday. It also gives the race organisers opportunity
show those marshalling the course their positions.
We all meet at Totnes leisure centre. There will be two
groups, to cater for all abilities; one at 640pm and the
other at 7pm. We can use the leisure centre changing
room/showers.
Afterwards we will go onto the Butchers Arms, in
Abbotskerswell, for a meal and a drink.
Lad‟s Weekend Away! - Weekend of 13th and 14th August
The Trotters on Tour are fast becoming a legend. Drinking
into the wee small hours and then taking prizes at next
day‟s local race.
This year the Trotter lads are off to Salisbury, where we
will sample the delights of this lovely city, including a
round of golf on a 9-hole par 3 course, before taking part
in the local 10k race on the Sunday.
Fancy dress (Village People!) is compulsory…apparently!!
Erm…and so are moustaches….!!!???!!!
Ljubljana Marathon - Sunday 23rd October
Any Trotter wishing for a European Marathon adventure in
2011 should look no further than the Ljubljana Marathon to
be held on October 23rd. Half marathon and 7K races are

for everyone.
The beautiful, charming old city of Ljubljana is the capital of
Slovenia, and with Easy-Jet offering cheap flights, this will
make the perfect weekend city break!
Those Trotters already booked are staying at the Hostel
Alibi M14, offering a range of different accommodation
options. Prices start at 15 Euros per night, if you‟re brave

Last one of the year: Friday 30 Sept (1830hrs start)
Held on the last Friday in every month, between April
and September, this is a great way to test your self over
a challenging four mile course, as well as a great
Trotter social get-together!
The four mile course starts and finishes at the
Sandygate Inn, in Kingsteignton, and follows quiet
country lanes on a circular loop. Parking is available in
the pub car park and afterwards we stay for a meal and
a drink. It‟s a lovely way to spend a summer evening.
WEEKLY
After training drink - Every Wednesday after training
Our weekly visit to the White Hart. This is where we
replenish all of the lost energy from training. Just turn up and
enjoy the company, the sarnies and other savory delights. It‟s a
great way to wind down and socialize after a hard training
session.
If you‟re new to the club, don‟t be shy – come and get involved!
Just turn up and you‟ll get a warm welcome.
“Friday Club” (the unofficial Trotter training run) - Every Friday at 17:45hrs
(except when “Sandygate Loop” is on)
It‟s simple: 45 seconds hard efforts and 45 seconds jogged
recovery – twelve of these efforts on a route around Ringmoor
and Shaldon, finishing on the Ness Hill. After a jogged warm up
over Shaldon bridge, the hard work starts at “The Gates of
Hades” (King George V Playing Fields).
Also, on the 2nd Friday in every month we go onto the
Shipwrights Inn, Shaldon, for an after training drink and bite
to eat!
