Job Summary:
Under the supervision and direction of the Director of Finance, the Staff Accountant is responsible
for assisting with the day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, investment and treasury functions of
the School District of Pittsburgh, strictly adhering to generally accepted accounting principles.
Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field (with a minimum of 24
credits in accounting preferred). Relevant experience preferred. Ability to utilize Microsoft Office
and other business-related software. PeopleSoft experience preferred. Excellent written and oral
communication skills; ability to work productively with external auditors and vendors; ability to
establish and maintain effective working relationships with schools, and other departments.
Job Responsibilities:
The Staff Accountant compiles, examines, maintains, posts and/or reconciles accounting records
which may include accounts payable, fixed asset accounting, site-base liaison and treasury functions
for the School District of Pittsburgh:
            •    Assists external auditors during the District’s annual single audit
            •    Maintains records of financial transactions
            •    Enters journal entries in PeopleSoft
            •    Monitors and reviews construction vendor contracts and invoices, as required
            •    Prepares the daily bank deposit and other related treasury functions
            •    Assist in the preparation of month-end and year-end closing processes
            •    Prepares work papers and tables related to the District’s capital borrowing and debt
                 service
            •    Performs as a liaison to school treasurers for general ledger assistance, including
                 school cash net software
            •    Completes monthly reports for the District’s capitalized fixed asset acquisitions
            •    Prepares assigned statements, schedules, notes, charts and statistical tables for the
                 Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports (CAFR) and the Annual Financial Report
                 (AFR) to the Commonwealth
              •   Execution of any and all duties necessary and incidental to the District’s accounting,
                  financial reporting, investment, and treasury functions
              •   Assists with the District’s P-Card Program
              •   Prepares any ad-hoc analyses as directed by the Chief Financial Officer or Director of
                  Finance
              •   All other duties as assigned


Salary range:              Support Non-Exempt Salary Schedule- Level 12 – Starts at $45,755
