It offers flexible alternating current transmission systems and high-voltage direct current systems; power semiconductor devices; and sub-sea cable solutions and land-cables. It also provides supervisory control and data acquisition systems; wireless and fixed communication systems; system integration for instrumentation, control, and electrical equipment; water pumping stations; air- and gas-insulated substations; and services and support for managing existing power transmission and distribution assets. In addition, it undertakes contracts for spare parts management, support agreements, and retrofits; and analyses of the design of new transmission and distribution systems. The companyÂ’s Low Voltage Products division offers low-voltage electrical equipment for wholesalers, original equipment manufacturers, and system integrators. ABBÂ’s Discrete Automation and Motion division offers products and systems for discrete manufacturing applications, such as robotics and programmable logic controllers; and motors and drives. It also provides products and services for the renewable sectors of solar and wind, as well as for the rail market. The companyÂ’s Process Automation division provides process automation, plant electrification and quality control systems, analytical measurement devices, turbochargers, and marine propulsion and control systems for the automation and optimization of industrial processes. It also offers instrumentation products to measure and control the flow of fluids. ABB was founded in 1883 and is headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland.
